I just bought 4 oz of pure Latakia suggested for mixing & blendig, but I will load a pipe and give a try as pure Latakia which if I understand correctly, is a smoky sented and tasting tobacco & I luv all the smoky tobaccos, so I think I will luv it pure. Already shipped and heading my way, I should have it in a few more days. I am hoping it will be the kind of tobacco I have been wanting for the past few years. I buy baccy that says Latakia & smoky, so I can enjoy it as a smoky baccy, but not all of the ones I got have satisfied my smoky cravings. So now I will try it strieght from the horses mouth ๐ lol. What do you guys think about Latakia & will I be happy with it pure? Thanks guys. ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ

Well, to each their own. Good luck with your experiment though.

It is most likely going to be very 1 dimensional. Smokey. If that's you're thing, you might love it. Smoke what YOU like.
Once in a while I have a bowl of Peter Stokkebye Dark Fired Kentucky. That's all that it is, DFK, nothing else. It's more like a campfire "taste" and sometimes I really enjoy it.
Theres nothing wrong with whatever you smoke, as long as you like it.

I did the same thing with perique. ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ๐ฉ! I suggest that you do the same. ๐๐ค

If you persist, use your smallest pipe.

Some 35 years ago, during my first pipe smoking era, I smoked straight Latakia for the last few years. I was told by someone who knew that it would help sweeten up my pipes. It did that and it wasnโt an unpleasant smoke. I wouldnโt smoke it all day but it was good for a few smokes a day. Good luck with your experiment!

There is a reason that blenders generally look it as a condimental tobacco, but if that is what floats your boat...

yeh...I been a lata-holic for at least last 15yrs or so. I'll do a med size bowl about once a month. Awhile back, somebody else mentioned a possible side effect. Urge to shave your toenails. Close to same here, do keep a safety razor handy.

Yes I guess it is an experiment & a newbie one at that. But I got to learn about such things anyway so I will try the Latakia to see what itโs all about. If I donโt like it pure, then I will have plenty for mixing & blending. Thanks guys ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ

Ok, I got my Latakia loaded a bowl & took it for a test drive. I enjoyed the smoky taste & smell, but you guys are right, itโs better to mix it with another baccy. A bit to strong for any every day all day smoke. I did do a few mixes and found it better than straight, & the blending worked great. I even mixed it with cherry ๐ cavendish & found that to be different but ok & I liked it. I will buy another 4 oz just to have for mixing & blending & even smoking it strieght at times. Overall I do like it a lot. Thanks guys for your input it is very helpful. ๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ

This thread reminded me that I still have a pound or more of whole leaf Latakia from 1997. I wonder how faded the flavor has become after almost 23 years? Perhaps it's time to dig that out and give it a spin!

At the very least you would have to grind it up and snuff it (the unicorn horn)
