I saw the title of the thread and was going to joke that it was a 20 hour documentary. Wasn't that far off.

Ken Burns is a serious maker of documentary movies. Ought to be very good.

From clips and info I've heard, the late Merle Haggard supplies many personal and historical reminiscences, which add substance to the production.

Ken Burns "The West" was also very good and worth the watch.

Their promoting the Country doc big time in my area. Given the various nostalgia booms, I hope it doesn't signal the return of the Urban Cowboy craze.

Watching the Sunday night concert now.....it is as far from the east as the west in urban cowboy, they are tapping the roots...new talent to be sure, but no Achy breaky or Taylor NotSoSwift from what I see. Nice to see that Ray Benson from Asleep At The Wheel has aged, I have not.

It will be interesting to watch. Hopefully Burn's has broaded his scope from the likes of Jazz. Where he took a handful of experts from the same camp and presented it as the be all and end all perspective.

A friend of mine in DC is a film researcher and documentarian, and has a lot of stories about Mr Burns. I just have to mention his name and she will start frothing at the mouth.
That said, I will be watching.

I’ve liked most of Ken Burns work, the Vietnam Doc not so much.

This may surprise y'all, but I did not grow up in New York City. I grew up in the midwest, and I love country music.
It makes me angry that folks associate country with trailer park life and white supremacy. That is not suitable, and I am extremely happy that Ken Burns, a voice that speaks to rich liberals, is gonna tell a story about country music that might reflect the real origins of country music.
(I learned from a real nasty letter from a poster on these forums that folks assume I am a proper city type, and while I might like to be, it ain't my title to claim. I am forever a visitor in New York, by the standards of those born and bred to it.)

Ken Burns' documentaries have been historical in nature. The Civil War (finished), Viet Nam (finished), The Dust Bowl (finished). Sadly, as I once again turn off the radio in disgust at what passes today for country music, it would appear that Mr. Burn's sense of the by-gone past and nostalgia for an era dead and gone is right on point.

"Jazz" was also surprisingly interesting, even though I don't listen to a lot of jazz music.
I have high hopes for the Country documentary.

I've got the DVR all set to record the series. Looking forward to it.

Totally ignores all the "big" cities where country music thrives - Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, Houston, Austin, etc.

Due to the nature of my work, I know that I will miss the live programming, and I do not have a dvr...does anyone know if It can it typically be streamed from the PBS app from my Roku shortly after the live airing? Or Netflix?
I have the impression that if you miss the boat on airing, PBS only offers the option of buying it at high prices so you can be a “supporter”.

Yes, That's about right. You would have to sign up to their Passport streaming service which is accessible to Roku. It is being played twice nightly in my area. Then the next installment Monday night. Failing that, you'll just have to take a cold 'tater and wait.

Thanks, Truc... about what I figured.
I need to revamp my home entertainment system.. I have a great TV and speakers, but everything else is old, I will get a DVR when I do.
