Due to the nature of my work, I know that I will miss the live programming, and I do not have a dvr...does anyone know if It can it typically be streamed from the PBS app from my Roku shortly after the live airing? Or Netflix? I have the impression that if you miss the boat on airing, PBS only offers the option of buying it at high prices so you can be a “supporter”. I think you have to subscribe to PBS to access it as a stream. Can also access PBS through Prime, but still have to pay extra for the subscription.

We have the PBS app, but it appears to be selective on what I can see, not full access by any stretch...All Elmo all the time if I want though.

I watched the first episode tonight, and looked at the PBS app on my Roku. 8 episodes total, 1-4 stream for free, 5-8 are locked but can be watched by subscribing with a $5 subscription fee... I will pay the fee for a one month.. maybe a couple months if I can watch the other Ken Burns series.

Almost all PBS content is offered for free streaming after airing, at least temporarily. (Really old stuff, they want to sell you DVD/Bluray)
The 1st ep of Country Music is definitely available, I am watching it right now

At least, that has been the pattern with other PBS content.

I just finished the first episode, and there is a lot of good stuff going on here. Ken Burns and company ain't afraid to get to the heart of the matter. This is music made by Appalachian folk, this is music made by Black folk, this is music made by urban folk, this is American music. It's all them damn things, all fused and melted and becoming their own thing.
To reiterate, Ken Burns and company ain't afraid. I applaud their boldness.

I have never cared for Peter Coyote's acting, but he is a fine narrator.

First episode on early roots was well done indeed. Yeah, the beginning of my knowledge was from Hank Sr. going forward, I knew that the Carters were pre-Hank, but that was about all I knew...good info!

That Carter family, so unassuming, yet so influential.

That Carter family, so unassuming, yet so influential. I love the idea of AP Carter just canvassing an entire county to find anything that isn't copyrighted that he can lock down.

I was familiar with Jimmie Rodgers and the Carters (Mother Maybelle appeared frequently on Johnny Cash's 60s TV show). I had never heard of the Maddox Brothers and Rose, who were featured in the second episode.

As a teenager, I traveled with a friend's family to Nashville in 1970 and was dragged to the Grand Ol' Opry at the old Ryman Auditorium (I was more into The Who and Jimi Hendrix).
It was actually kinda cool. I don't remember everyone who performed, but Grandpa Jones and Minnie Pearl were a couple.

we followed episode #2 last nite. Great to see snippits from Willie, Merle, M.Stuart. Esp the contributions of 6ft 8" Ray Benson (Asleep at the Wheel). New him well from back in the early 70s when I was furloughed from the railroad due to a coal strike, not enuf seniority to hold a crew anywhere in our division. Wound up for about a year touring as a "roadie" & part time fiddle player with George Frayne (CommanderCody) & his band of loonies. We were opening act for the Wheel a few times. For those who may not know, the Wheel has kept alive the Western Swing sound of BobWills & the Texas Playboys for around 40 yrs. We hope to follow the following episodes.
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY

Found the 2nd episode good but did not match the 1st. Too much Star power for me. Maybe the 3rd will return to the trenches.

Loving this series. Ken Burns is a master storyteller.

Yeah this series is dynamite.
Burns has done really well to un-pick all the various threads that woven into country and bluegrass. And he has a Tom of great interviews with now deceased figures.

I didn’t know God made Honky Tonk Angels, Dun,Dun Dun..,!! Hey, one of my best friends is a Honky Tonk Angel. She's paying for those days now. We call her the "Queen of the Silver Dollar" and she laughs and says "you got that right."

I have recorded the first 7 episodes. At some point I expect to drop off because I don't care much for the recent country music, like after 1975.

Haven't seen good ol' Texas son, Joe Ely. They touched on roots and side streams, but didn't mention him nor Doug Sahm, who had a lot of country DNA.
