I've posted this recipe up before, but every time I mix this up for Fall, I FALL in love with it all over again (sorry about the pun).
5 parts Burley 4 Parts Latakia 3 parts Oriental (I use Smyrna) 2 parts Red VA 1 part Perique
So...so good. I can't always be smoking a pipe around a campfire w/ my friends, but this Latakia-heavy blend takes me to that happy place. In fact, I named this blend "Happy Camper."

Sounds good ... thanks for sharing the recipe! I can't wait until it's cool enough to be enjoying those Lat Bombs once again.

I live in a cool climate and enjoy English and Balkan blends year 'round. But to me, a Lat bomb has to be more than 60% Latakia. YMMV.

Earle's 10 Russians, C&D Star of the East Flake, HH Vintage Syrian and F&K Lancer's Slices would qualify for me. McClelland Balkan Blue, GLP Gaslight and Nightcap are also usual suspects in the Fall and Winter.

Arango Balkan Supreme is just wonderful year round...followed up with P/S English Oriental Supreme and then Crumble Kake Eng. #1....Penzance of course when I think about it.

That does sound good!
For me, fall blends depend on whether I'm in a cool, crisp or damp, dead leaves and woodsmoke outdoors kind of mood, or a more festive, "holidays are coming" kind of mood. It's latakia and oriental blends for the former, and Macbaren Mixture for the latter.
Right now, I'm sitting outside in my late afternoon back yard, enjoying the weather shift. We had an uncharacteristically (for the Olympic peninsula) thunderstormy night last night, and today is overcast, cool and showery. Fall is in the air for sure, and I'm smoking some Peretti Cambridge Flake, staring at the tomatoes, zucchini and apples I'll need to pick soon, because I don't think they're getting any riper; summer is over for us I think. If it were later in the evening, it would probably be Royal in my pipe. A cold crisp type of fall night is what Tashkent is made for, and I'm looking forward to that. I haven't smoked anything but Peretti blends since I was in Boston a month ago; it's kind of ridiculous but I'm totally happy with them.

As having no seasonal preference, I never did understand the Latakia/cold weather association. I easily smoke them any time of year just as I would any other type blend.

I might as well smoke lats all year round. We hardly get warm enough not to.
I don't think I'll try that recipe - not because I don't want to, but I don't I have all the ingredients...yet.

Everytime I want a Balkan or heavy lat blend, I talk myself out of it, grab a Virginia, and remain happy.
I do like Gaslight and Nightcap when its cooler outside, but they dont find their way to my pipes very often anymore. Contenders are Bengal Slices and Blackhouse as well.

The only Balkan I smoke is Black House. It serves me well. I find that latakia cools the smoke so it's an all year condiment for me. I no longer fix my own vehicles or paint my own home, so I am not about to start blending my own tobacco. I trust Russ O. to take care of this for me.

Not so much the EOS. Crumble Cake hasn't been tried here yet. And I see my spel-chucker changed Kake to Cake, which makes me wonder- why was it ever spelled with a K? When did that start?

I wish I could enjoy Virginians, but I'm one of those weirdos who gets wicked tongue-bite if there's more than a whisper of VA in a blend...which sucks because I live in Virginia.

GLP Blackpoint or Charring Cross. The Cross is a little stronger than the BP but the BP has perique and a little more red making it more complex.

I'm making a list of Fall-Smokes! I haven't had ANY of the ones listed above. I'm ashamed.

Well if you're making a list better add Plum Pudding Special Reserve.

It’s not quite a ‘Quiet Nights’ or Balkan Supreme kind of night, but it’s almost cool enough, so I’m going to smoke a bowl of Tashkent. . It’s been much to long since I’ve smoked any.
