I am well aware that it is heavily recommended that one should not smoke to help avoid getting cataracts. Be that as it may, I also know tons of folks who have never smoked anything and have had age related onset of cataracts. I've only been a pipe smoker in my life and have the need to have cataract surgery at age 72. What have any of you pipe smokers done about smoking during recovery from cataract surgery?
I'm thinking that I should refrain from pipe smoking for a week or two after surgery in order to not let the smoke irritate my eyes during the healing process. What say you?

I am 69 this month and I will need the surgery in 2 years per the doctor. I would expect to give it up for a couple of weeks just to be safe.

Had cataracs in both eyes due to diabetes and had them removed this summer. Was a week btwn each eye and doctor said nothing about not smoking and he knew I was a pipe smoker. I only smoked a couple of bowls btwn each eye and had no problems. Enjoy your eye patch you'll be wearing, it makes driving fun !

I did some research before I had both shoulders operated on major tears to Bicep, Labrum, rotator cuff in both shoulders. It did not take me very long to find out that nicotine is a vasco-constrictor, that constricts blood flow to the areas that benefit from increased blood flow post-op, especially in the really fine areas of the shoulder. I decided to only smoke a pipe at monthly pipe club meetings.
I ended up having phenomenal results, both shoulders recovered in great fashion and it exceeded even the physical therapists expectations.
I would figure the intricacies of the eye, that you would do well to refrain during the process...you have nothing to lose...especially when considering something as precious as eyesight.
This advice is dispensed from a practicing truck driver, not a doctor.

Don’t, healing takes blood flow, I didn’t after my surgery, but I brought a Morta to show the Dr a 5;000 yr old pipe, even had the carbon dating. He was impressed and he didn’t say anything about not smoking.

As stated above a couple times, the problem is blood flow. After surgeries of any kind, you want your body in tip top condition to heal properly and quickly. It makes a big difference. My wife is finding that out the hard way after she went back to cigs after she just had the twins. It's taking longer than the dr. expected for her c section incision to heal up.
Since I try to be a good husband, I just accepted the fact that she knows everything and didnt say anything else about the cigs and post op healing.
Drs take every chance they get to tell you to quit smoking. I dont find it's their place to do so. If it's a health concern, it's more money for them later. But in the case of surgery and healing, they are right.

A lot of folks forget you have to move after surgery short walks with help get the blood flowing will help a lot when healing up. If you can refrain from smoking it is probably a good thing as well.

I had cataract surgery a year ago. I smoked right away, no ill effects. But it'd be safer to lay off.
