Peterson Irish Harp Sterling Silver Band 106 Dublin
Been seeing it there in the rack for a few months, since I got it. So I figure I should just do it and smoke it before I canโt (getting up in years) So I filled it just a pinch over half with Prince Albert Burley Tobacco. Then I lit it up. Right away I could taste the burley, was clean and fresh. It stayed lit longer than my usual pipes, and I enjoyed it very much. Did not grip it in my teeth.๐ฌ Will smoke this one and often.๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ

Peterson pipes take a long time to break in. They start to get good at about 25 bowls, and reach perfection around 1000 - 1500 bowls.

I am on only on my fifth Peterson, though.

Only have a couple of Petes, a pair of 03s. They broke in rather easily. Good luck with yours.

I have about a dozen Pete's. 2 are estate pipes that came to me appearing to have been smoked to death. A little elbow grease they are my best smoking pipes.

Good on ya, brother. I need to put some more work into my Petersons...I rarely reach for them. I just cleaned it this morning and enjoyed doing it. New pipe, not much on pipe cleaners. Now that itโs in my rotation, I will be reaching for it a lot. Iโm glad I finally broke it in๐๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ

From my recent experiences, bowl coating is no longer an issue with Peterson pipes.

The stem is hard to get in & out. Much too tight. What do you guys do about a tight stem? Had to use some real strength just to get it in all the way, then it was very hard to turn to center it. Axle grease?๐lol๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ

Use beeswax or a graphite (a pencil).

Axle grease?๐lol๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ The stem is fitted in Dublin. If you are in a very different climate, it may change the fit. Especially if it has set for a long time. Is it harder or easier to remove right after a smoke? If it seems like it's going to break, try putting it in the freezer for an hour or two. It should loosen up after a while. I would save any sanding for a last resort.

Good on ya, brother. I need to put some more work into my Petersons...I rarely reach for them. To many now to choose from. LOL! Ha...hardly. A friend gave me three of his Peterson pipes when he quit the pipe, but I much prefer my cobs so that's what I reach for more often than not...but maybe that's because I haven't given my Peterson's enough time to break them in. Ronv69 said that around 1000-1500 bowls and they are perfection. I haven't smoked that many bowls in my life let alone in one pipe. The stem is hard to get in & out. Much too tight. What do you guys do about a tight stem? Had to use some real strength just to get it in all the way, then it was very hard to turn to center it. Axle grease?๐lol๐ง๐ผโโ๏ธ The stem is fitted in Dublin. That must be why I've no issues with my stems being tight...although, Dublin IS closer to the equator than where I live.

Pencil is ok, but I use a very fine industrial grade. It usually only needs the graphite once or twice and the stems become easier to remove. Remember, only twist a stem clockwise. On or off.

I have been doing it wrong!! My wife will be thrilled! ๐๐๐๐ค

The implication there, is that the shank has some sort of 'muscle memory' and is prone to cracking if stem is removed the opposite?
