As I'm sure you all know, sometimes the draft hole gets clogged with a bit of tobacco while smoking. This makes it almost impossible to draw on the pipe. I have been using a pick (either the one on a czech tool or the one inside an 8deco tamper) to try to dislodge the bit of tobacco (I've done this for years), but that only works about half the time. I figure there must be a better way. Anybody?

That's what the pick is for. You can always use a screen. I have a few pipes with overly large draft holes and a use a few Dennicool crystals in those.

Pipe cleaner … removes moisture and pushes the stuck bit of tobacco out of the hole. This rarely happens to me anymore, though, and I assume it's the packing technique.

This is what I've always done, as Darin said, it rarely happens, but when it does ,you'll kill two birds with one stone with a pipe cleaner.

The moisture for me is either not letting the tobacco dry enough or my dog-like slobbering mouth, aka poor clentching technique. So I clear the hole a d deal with moisture if need be. My vote, pipe cleaner.

If you have a pipe that won't pass a pipe cleaner, a piece of guitar string will do well...if you don't have a guitar you're out of luck, but you can pick one up at any music store.

Try this , run a pipe cleaner in and leave it, pack your pipe and then pull, pipe cleaner out. It works for me.

A pipe cleaner through the stem usually dislodges the tobacco, but if it still feels restrictive, the Czech rod straight down to the airway along the back of the bowl will open it up so that I don’t have to dump and repack.

I'm like most... I use a pipe cleaner too. Never tried a guitar string, but I've heard they work well too.

Old drill bits work very well.

I have been known to use a drill to clean the shank on estate pipes. No more using a whole bag of bristle cleaners.
