A few weeks ago I added a seldom-used Pete to my current pipe rotation. I went to clean it today and had a problem - the pipe cleaner wouldn't fit in the hole between the shank and the bowl. (is that called the `draft hole'?) The stamp marks it as a Pete Donegal Rocky shape 05. I tried various things like bending the pipe cleaner, twisting it around in the bottom of the shank, etc, with no luck. Any advice?

Perhaps a small drill bit, piece of coat hanger or the probe on the Czech tool with a very gentle hand will help clear the obstruction.

Did a quick search find no reference to the 05 found an 106. Also a pic would help.
Is this a bent system pipe, or a straight pipe ? Was it smoked left handed or right handed?
From the basic info given I would say the draft hole is plugged. Now if it is a system pipe the draft hole would be harder to find.
The one thing you can do to find the draft hole is to shine a light in the shank(stummel). Using care you can use a straightens jumbo paper clip to probe the draft hole.

It's not a system pipe. It is a bent pipe. I clench on the right side, if that matters. The suggestion to try to clear the blockage using the poker on a czech tool worked. Thanks guys!

Everclear is a great solvent to pipe goo...drenched pipe cleaners can dissolve the crud, keep it off the finish though, it works a s a wax stripper equally well.

The 05 series are the classic Calabash shape. They are all bent. Are you sure that you are in the draft hole and not in the shallow stub of a well thats under it? I have this pipe in 3 sizes. The small 05 is a non-system pipe, the middle is a 315xl System pipe, and the XL5S is a very large Deluxe System, so I am very familiar with them. And estate pipes rarely ever have had the draft hole in the shank cleaned. A 4.5mm drill bit is the quickest way to get it going.

It is a rusticated system in the originations with cloth sleeve and paper insert. The on thing that throws me is the pipe is stamped Connemara. Now my small Peterson collection has grown a little more.
