can you buy one and sail it over to me? I could have 40 years ago. It should be nothing for a young man like yourself.

Don't they have a ferry with a hot chocolate vendor running back and forth to Islay. Because nothing spells disaster better than a small boat in a big ocean.

He sure makes some good looking boats! Since 1793! They only make about 7 boats a year now. Mostly history and boat building lessons now.

So I just got fitted for a trial of contact lenses. Man alive, this is much better than glasses! I'm seeing things in 4k. I wore them years ago and boy it was hard as hell to learn how to get them in. Glad it’s working out for you LL 🧙🏼♂️

I wear $4 grocery store magnifiers and they work fine for me, though I'm not sure I could continue to model my little tanks in 1/72 with them - the parts are dinky! Contacts scare me, and if you tell the Air Force you've ever had Lasik they instantly disqualify you from flying anything, I dont know why. Dadgummit, liked me own post again. Bad Dave. Glad you got the contacts and new car

So, you have a new job, church, house, car, and contacts. Did I miss anything? Exciting time for you and the family, L2. You'll probably need that trip to Bushmill's when you're done moving (if not now).

Ach! No, man. All he needs is a Curragh. One like Saint Brenden sailed in. Leather stretched over ash or oak frames. A Celtic cross on the sails.

That might work, but those Lowell’s are 800 year newer technology!

I'm getting a new pipe too (but that's from someone who owes me and I've asked to be paid by pipe instead.

Any selkies in your new congregation? Say what now? Selkies are well known to live in that part of Ireland. Selkies are people that turn into seals in the ocean and turn back into people when they are back on land.

Jason, New Orleans selkies are much more gamey than the north Atlantic selkies. They are much more likely to be Santerians than Episcopalian.

I did the Lasik also 10 years ago. I got tired of coming out of coolers and freezers and my glasses being fogged up. I'd take them off and still couldn't see so I tried contacts and it was a hassle because of the dirt and stuff I was exposed to. Got checked for lasik and had it done and still can see pretty good but have to wear cheaters when reading but was told I would have to because they couldn't correct it. Some days I can see perfectly, and on the bad days it's still better than before the Lasik. Right after it I could see distance and read without glasses. After 5 years or so I started needing reading glasses. Then a year ago I started needing driving glasses. I keep watching for the best cataract implants that really work. Being able to see is very important to my quality of life. I just finished getting my second eye implant for cataract issues. I wouldn't press the issue for cataract surgery until your cataracts are deemed ripe enough. I wouldn't be too concerned over the best implants that really work. The cataract lens technology is very comprehensive these days. My ophthalmologist said there are almost too many implant lenses to choose from these days. She did a ton of testing and measurements during my cataract maturing/ripening years, then retested and took measurements galore again just before surgery was scheduled, discussed my vision concerns with me as far as distance, mid-range, and closeup needs were. She made a implant choice for my weakest eye first and did that surgery. Then after the weakest implanted eye healed and she was able to test and measure the success achieved with that eye's correction. That weakest eye implant results then enabled her to confirm which implant would be best for the second more dominant eye. I'm just 6 days out from the second eye implant and it appears my ophthalmologist hit a home run for my vision at "all distances"! I haven't had vision this good since I was in high school without glasses. Just wishing she could have gotten rid of the bags under my eyes that are now so visible without my wearing glasses. You really become aware that you have them when you no longer wear glasses.

I tried contacts twice. The first time they only made the hard lenses. It was like having a piece of glass in my eyes. Couldn't tolerate them. My co-workers who had encouraged me to get them were begging me to get rid of them because I was always in a bad mood when wearing them. A decade or so later I tried the soft lenses and they were better, but I was shooting competitive Bullseye pistol matches and I found that they jiggled when I shot and it took a second or so before I could see the sights again. Very bad for rapid fire. Along with the other issues I abandoned the contacts for Lasix. Best thing I have ever done. I am wearing glasses again because I am in the pre cataract surgery phase and it will be a couple of years before I can get perfect vision again. Same for me. I have pretty bad astigmatism, so the hard lenses were necessary and I hated them.
Had laser surgery in 2010, and still couldn't be happier with it. My only issue is with very small print.

I became nearsighted in college. Then, over the next 34 years of wearing either contacts or glasses, my sight gradually got a little worse and then a little better, until it eventually returned to 20/20 a few years ago. I do, however, need glasses to read small print these days.
My brother had a similar experience. He was nearsighted in middle school and high school, but his vision returned to 20/20 in college and remained so from then on. My optometrist said it was unusual and perhaps genetic since the same thing happened to both of us.
