So I just got fitted for a trial of contact lenses.
Man alive, this is much better than glasses! I'm seeing things in 4k.

That is good.Glad they are working for you.
I used them long ago when I was an active sailboat competitor. The term is "Yachtsman". There is no way I will refer so, LOL!
The soft lenses enabled me to see when my spectacles would have been crusted with salt and spray. While they were a hassle to clean and put on and off, it was worth it then.

Ah, but then you could've been a yachtsman smoking a yachtsman...

Ah, but then you could've been a yachtsman smoking a yachtsman... Perhaps. A Nordic Folkboat on San Franciscso Bay is a wet ride. Perhaps on the downwind run once past the weather buoy there wold be time for s smoke and less spray. On a Reach from Alcatraz back to SF, the spray is constant breaking over anyone exposed like a helmsman. No way to keep a pipe lit.

I know this is taking the thread off course but now I'm thinking of all the tobacco to go with being on a boat/ship. C&D: Sea Dog Dan Tobacco: Salty Dogs All of the Captain Earle's And so much more. Also, congrats on the eye ball lenses!

I tried contacts twice. The first time they only made the hard lenses. It was like having a piece of glass in my eyes. Couldn't tolerate them. My co-workers who had encouraged me to get them were begging me to get rid of them because I was always in a bad mood when wearing them. A decade or so later I tried the soft lenses and they were better, but I was shooting competitive Bullseye pistol matches and I found that they jiggled when I shot and it took a second or so before I could see the sights again. Very bad for rapid fire. Along with the other issues I abandoned the contacts for Lasix. Best thing I have ever done. I am wearing glasses again because I am in the pre cataract surgery phase and it will be a couple of years before I can get perfect vision again.

Also, congrats on the eye ball lenses! I, of all people, would not have an issue with my own thread taking a tangent. Don't apologise to me. Mightn't be great for some people on a more serious or pipe-related topic, but for me, in this thread...carry on.

I wear glasses and I can see, just not fine print or up close clearly. After putting them on for the first time today I now realize you did not contact aliens but got contact lenses. That's still great news.

I got tired of coming out of coolers and freezers and my glasses being fogged up. I'd take them off and still couldn't see so I tried contacts and it was a hassle because of the dirt and stuff I was exposed to. Got checked for lasik and had it done and still can see pretty good but have to wear cheaters when reading but was told I would have to because they couldn't correct it.

Presbyopia is pretty common when people turn 40 or so, sadly Lasik cannot remedy that. www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/presbyopia/symptoms-causes/syc-20363328Still glad I had Lasik, my distance is so much better, I can comfortably go all day without glasses if I didn't need to read. Congrats on the new eyeballs, new ministry, new home, Paddy.... you are really going through changes!

I looked up Mosside and Paddy is going to need good eyesight so he does not drive right through it and miss it. This mounting stone seems to be the pride of town and it even has a brass plaque we will need to know what that says when he gets there.

Some days I can see perfectly, and on the bad days it's still better than before the Lasik. Right after it I could see distance and read without glasses. After 5 years or so I started needing reading glasses. Then a year ago I started needing driving glasses. I keep watching for the best cataract implants that really work. Being able to see is very important to my quality of life.

Wasn't planning on getting one but I got a call last week from the dealership offering me a new car for pretty much the same as I'm paying on my current one. Was a no brainer really esp as I was going to need new tyres and brakes very soon.

I'll rename it as smuggler's cove while I'm there.

If you visit Bushmills those contacts wont do a thing for your eye sight. Just pick one elephant out of the two and stick with him.

Not sure how far Islay is from the Irish coast, but it looks like about 90 miles. Sailing there should be fun. I can't imagine anything bad could happen sailing back from Islay across the north Atlantic after a day at the Laphroaig Distillary.
