Yup an interesting weekend.
Found some interesting pipes and tobacco.
You had to be there to understand the sensory overload from the sights.
Then there are the chances of being offered a bowl of a vintage blend.

I Returned to my home away from home last night and my 9th West Coast Pipe Show is now in the books. I had five nights of smoke filled fun and fellowship. Here is what I came home with.
Friday, The Charatan Collectors Society invited some Dunhill and Barling guys to join in on the fun and to show off their collections. My little group was pretty humble in comparison to some of the heavy B C D hitters but it was fun to show off my re imagined Dunhill collection for the first time.

Nice collection and nice score, Dave!
There was a lot if tobacco’s I didn’t look at the prices because I wanted to resist temptation for something I don’t need.

How were the tobacco prices? Any examples someone can share? Of course I looked at all the tobacco prices. Dug through old boxes looking for hidden gems. I picked up a few 2000 McCranie's Red Flake and some McClelland No 22. If you were looking for steals I didn't see any with tobacco. A few better than fair prices but mostly they were on the high side. 1980 Balkan Sorbranie tins for $250. I guess the older it gets the more rare it becomes and the higher the price. I suppose they will be asking higher prices next year. I did buy a bunch of stuff from a private blender that so far has been incredible. I have tried 4 of the 12 I purchased and only one was okay (aromatic). The others were outstanding.

Says it puts FMC to shame.

I smoked some last night. I love it! His Zombie English is really stuck in my head right now. I'm going to smoke some more tonight. I will be posting what I think about each of them on my InstaGram page.

Man, if I had tins that old, I would take my chances with Pipestud....them command higher prices than that in the past, but 39 years is pushing the limit...just my opinion.

If it were the black 759 tins you could double that price. I got a bowl from the seller and and it was in perfect condition but the white just doesn't do much for me and is nothing special. I bought Mountains of Madness and Spaghetti Western 2 from KBV aka SeanConnery on the SPEZ board just to see what the hype is about. We'll see.

A lot of others that did not have tables were fun to talk to...Greg Pease, Mike Murphy, Mike McNeil....I saw Mary McNeil in a cafe visiting with Brian Levine, if she was ever on the floor, I missed it...I really wanted to say Hi.

Rex poggenphol had 4 tables! What was going on there? With that many tables, hopefully a couple empty ones when he left! I wasn't really in buying mode, so I didn't spend a lot of time looking...I thought it better for the vendors to spend their time talking to potential buyers...my plan is to thin the herd this year, and prepare for next.

Rex poggenphol had 4 tables! What was going on there? Rex could fill 8 tables but he took 3 and Steve Leaders and I split the 4th table. Rex had a pretty good show, Steve sold out and I sold 7 pipes. The Meerschaum and Castello shape 215 from my picture came from Rex and the unsmoked stack Epoca came from Steve via the same collection as TB's BBB.
