Lately, while driving truck at night, my mouth has really been wrecked smoking Tobacco, predominately Virginias even though I have been using proper technique. Last night while eating sunflower seeds to stay awake on the long ride, it occurred to me that the salty seeds were robbing my mouth of the moisture that acts as a protective barrier. I was curious as to hear if anyone else has had the same experience, or if it is more of an individual thing on my part....

Hi, fresh whole milk usually calms tongue bite for me when I have had it infrequently, but I am a Bourne-again newbie to Cap'n Black Gold, I would happily solo across the Atlantic in a Model T-Ford, smoking that Buffalo cows milk...but I used to enjoy salted peanuts & salted crisps with a pint & a pipe in the good old days, so never had that problem, but sip on some spring water perhaps, pleased to make your acquaintance sir. PS. There are many bottles of medicine for on the road, for ongoing relief, but avoid the rattlesnake healers, particularly the DJ's ;-)

Smoking mostly Va's is what would do that to me ... the lower pH and higher sugar content "bites" a bit more for me. At first, it's an enjoyable, tangy type of nip but it grows over time. Others, like our buddy Tim, can't stand the more alkaline pH of Burley. It's funny how our personal body chemistries can affect pipe smoking.

As I think longer about it, it personal body chemistry plays quite a role, and at least for Me it seems that salt exacerbates the problem.

Hi ,just an idle Sunday reflection on your thread gents, I like the occasional regular beer at home & out & about in my senior years , with a dram or shot or nip or tipple etc to revive me now & again, best to dress to suit the weather folks, I am not a wannabe young stud or maverick, ...The DJ, biochemist physiologists answer is to become a Hellywood, mumbo jumbo, android, like Avatar or Elysium, I much prefer lunting by foot to driving but business is business, a cushy job at times with power assisted steering & all mod cons, not like the old days but if you know the right blokes any job is cushy, I hope you find the answers you want. Even in the gym you have to pay the union subs to the "good" guys with the bank... Some people swear by vitamins & alternative medicine & some people take what they are given by the wealthy Pharmacy medics. Myself I try and get a prescription from the Right doctor, but each individual is unique, bye.

Virginias have always occupied a spot in my regular rotation. I haven't used salt in my personal cooking for years; however, it really speaks to me when I eat out and can affect my smoking afterwards. Best to keep a cold beverage handy and maybe mix in a bowl of something Lat forward for me.

I'll have two of whatever he's having! Whoever he is , but fair comment I am just multitasking with my looney toons for fun...whatever turns us on at times... like the tide it will all be washed away & forgotten...or will it ! P'S, I am on my Bread & Butter mix, it is posted elsewhere if anyone is interested, but I like to friendly with this friendly crew, & spring water. P'p's. It is in my Parker Rodesian. A quality Dunhill reject they say, but it is better than talking to the goggle box or the dozing dog., but I am having a retreat for three day, after coming out on Sundays as a (do not tell the Chief) A CHRISTIAN, but I will be back ready to take on Tyson himself. , after recharging the batteries, & some good baccy & cigars. ( that is Mike Tyson, I am a fan of Tyson Fury, a great fighter in a bad Shaolin Samurai dung heap.)

Sunflower seeds tear up my taste buds too much. I have never tried them and then smoked afterwords, but I don't think I would like it. They also make my teeth feel more sensitive. I like my pipe with water, wine, beer, juice or soda. I don't drink anything stronger while smoking anymore.
