I've never really noticed any particular pipe being partial to a particular blend. I always just pick a pipe that fits my current activity, or strikes my fancy. Then I choose a tobacco that I have a taste for at that time. Not an overly complex process.
This new Joe Case bent egg is a wonderful size for me. The first blend I smoked in it was my own blend, a combination of burly, Virginia's, black cavendish and old dark fired Kentucky. It smoked ok, but started gurgling almost immediately. Next I tried 3 Noggins. A little hard to keep lit, and immediate gurgle. Today I packed it with Carter Hall, and it was a great smoke. Stayed lit, proper draw and no gurgle. This afternoon, I loaded it again with Carter Hall, and it was another all around great smoke. I'm a little perplexed. Was it just a series of happenstance, or are there actually certain physical charisterics in a pipe that lends itself to particular blends? Or certain cuts? I'm talking mostly about briar here.

Carter Hall is my control tobacco choice, especially with a new pipe. Stick with CH for awhile, then try that personal mix again.

If your pipe gurgles try opening the airway up a size with drill bits and also drill up the stem a little bit to make the airway larger. Every Peterson I have I’ve had to do this with and it fixes the problem every time.

I've tried 5 full bent pipes from a variety of makers with all of the blends I smoke and they ALL gurgle no matter which blend I smoke in them. Because of this I don't buy or smoke anymore full bents!

I used to segregate pipes for Virginia blends but then I realized that my palette is not that finely tuned and I enjoy all blends (except aromatics) in all my pipes.

One tobacco smokes and tastes the same to me regardless of the pipe I smoke it in. I have pipes that are genre dedicated and For favorite blends, I have pipes that I will only ever smoke that blend in. For any gurgling, smoke 10-20 hot half bowls in the offending pipe to carbonize and cake the heel.

Duane before you open up the stem, open up the tendon, my experience with gurgulers that’s it’s almost always at the tendon. Hope that works for you.

I have a couple of pipes for heavy lat blends and 2 for aros. It's fair game for the rest of them though. I dont like picking up Lat or DFK when smoking a straight Virginia
I redrilled my Pete and it's now gurgle free.
