The bane of my lawn care existence. When I see a fresh trail, I like to stab it with a pitchfork and then stomp the trail down. I don't know if I kill anything, but it's good therapy anyway.
Today, my friends, I finally received satisfaction! As I was forking the trail, the little bastard popped out onto the surface. Squeaked pitifully and ran in a circle until I administered the coup de grace with my foot.
Anyone else have to deal with these varmints?

Down here, the South, it’s Armadillos, those bastards are digging machines. Got to have a sharp stick, run up on one, grab him by the tail, they’re digging 90 Miles an hr, you grab him by the tail and jab him up the poop chute, he’ll quit digging I Garronte. Old folks during the depression called it poor people pork, then done the road it was said to cause lypresoy. Either was moles or Armafillos are trouble for lawns.

I killed probably 5-6 this summer. I have become quite adept at setting the traps.

I let the local cats take care of them. I give them food and they bring me moles. Pretty good trade.

Never saw a mole. Had a big crop of armadillos the last couple of years. One of the parents was flattened on the road behind the house last week. We don't have much of a yard because of all the trees and we're too old to keep up with the flower beds so we might as well raise armadillos. I don't have anything against them, and they are Texans after all. I really hate possums, but they are supposed to be good to have around. The leprosy in armadillos is greatly exaggerated. Besides, no one dies from leprosy any more. Easier cured than the flu.

Leprosy all my skin is falling off of me. I am not half the man I used to be. Oh I believe in Leprosy! Modern day varmint hunters keep up the good work.

Armadillos are the major culprits around here. In the last 2-3 years the moles have gotten worse.

I always thought voles were super tiny but, after looking at pictures, I believe you’re right.

Yep, it's a vole. Top image mole, bottom vole. I leave moles alone, never saw a real vole, and I let garter snakes be as well. Both aerate my lawn for free.

The door flung open and she came running in. I asked her what was wrong. Her reply... "theres an armadillo in the flower bed and he was looking at me like he was going to bite me." I laughed like hell, walked outside, clapped my hands right behind it, it ran off. Bit by an armadillo? That's a first.

I quit eating them after hearing about the leprosy thou. They say they carry it in their snouts, never ate that part. Lots of the down here too. Watched 4 in my neighbors yard rooting around. as long as they stay there. Moles ate our yard up in NC. Followed by Voles.

They are cute and relatively harmless. If we can't tolerate them, it's very unlikely that we will be able to tolerate each other.

People and nature mix less and less.
As I've said, I live in a small farming community. Farming, hunting and fishing is a way of life. They mock "city folk" who are afraid of nature. Though this summer a fox made a home on the edge of town and people are freaking out.
I dont get it. :/

It’s an epidemic, Kaplan a Cajun town if there ever was wanted to pass an ordinance you couldn’t keep chickens within the city limits, REALLY! The supposed ordinance was voted down. I used to go to Madglen Square and smoke whatever on bench under big oak tree, Not anymore, smoke free environment, REALLY! Bingo Halls and Local Bars smoke free! REALLY! THis Country is going to 💩💩💩💩💩!

My great grandfather used to say where this country was going. My grandfather did as well. My father has said it for years now and in a few years I guess I will too.
Some things never change.

Back to moles and voles. I've read that filling their holes with coffee grounds drives them away. Probably not far enough. But the grounds are good for the soil we have at our house.

I just read up on moles in Texas. I didn't realize that they were so small. They could only improve our yard. A half inch of topsoil over clay and tree roots.

The state agriculture service says that any foreign materials in their burrow will just make them back up and dig around it.

I just read up on moles in Texas. I didn't realize that they were so small. They could only improve our yard. A half inch of topsoil over clay and tree roots. Since I wrote this at the old house we've moved to mole country. Our entire acre is a warren of mole holes and tunnels. It would be a full time job to get rid of them. I've flooded the tunnels, used poison gas bombs, put out bait and tried noise makers to no effect.
