Former cigarette smoker here. How do I ensure that I am not inhaling my pipe smoke and only puffing it? I want to let me lungs heal and break the inhaling for good.

If you inhale pipe tobacco, you'll know it.

If you inhale pipe tobacco, you'll know it. This plus there is no way you will NOT inhale some smoke! When you puff on your pipe you expel smoke you will inhale much of it as you breath. Not as you would with a cigarette but you WILL ingest some smoke. Light your pipe and enjoy it !

Get some Picayune. If you inhale you'll definitely know it.
In reality, just be mindful of it. I still inhale once in a while. Pipe tobacco smoke taste much better than cigarettes. Probably because it's real tobacco.

Just sip lightly, it will eliminate tongue bite and you will savor the flavors more.

I do remember reading something about this. I've tried it and I think it works, but I'm not certain I can explain it clearly. Basically, if you're sipping smoke only into your mouth without inhaling, you're doing it by closing up the back of your throat (this is the same way people can retrohale without inhaling or swallowing smoke). So, to test: you sip a mouthful of smoke, then close your mouth, holding the smoke inside. You then take several deep breaths, in and out, through your nose. If you don't have your throat sealed in that way I can't explain, you'll end up drawing some smoke from your mouth down into your lungs with each inhalation, and then see it on the exhalation. If, on the other hand, you can hold the smoke in your mouth during several deep breaths through your nose without seeing smoke on the exhalations, and then open your mouth and let out a full mouthful of smoke, you're not inhaling. So goes the theory. I'm sure this varies by individual, so don't know if it's really a legit test for everyone. It works for me, but then I have an easier method of knowing I don't inhale: I can't inhale anything without choking lol. When I accidentally breathe even the faintest wisp of smoke, from tobacco or a woodfire or anything, I cough and hack like crazy. The times I've actually tried to inhale a cigarette drag, I thought I was gonna die .

I too inhale when not paying attention. I used to smoke cigarettes back in the day, so accidentally inhaling happens. I try not to think about it to much, and enjoy my pipe smoking. 🧙🏼♂️

How not to inhale, Hmm! Don't smoke?
I use to smoke Camel Non-filters for about 45 years and went to a pipe, I inhale probably about half of what I smoke.....if not more. My lung capacity has almost come up to normal now 98%.

It's a good way to see that very little smoke goes in the lungs unless your inhale.
