If you did not serve, please do not post here... (We can chime in on the 11th)
I would like to hear only from those that served, and their thoughts of their service
On Veterans day we post our appreciation of our countrymen, that paid the price that we oftimes take so easily for granted.

For me its a day to honor my brothers and sisters who did so much more than I did serving our country. I was in for only 5 years, and while I served in the first gulf war all we did was float around and look pretty whilst our Army and Marine brethren were inland getting shot at.

Charlie,
For me it's mostly a somber time. Not to be too much of a Debbie Downer, but I can't help but feel a bit guilty. Guilty in that I'm here with my family and loved ones and my brothers are no longer with us.
I think of the words of Major Dick Winters.... "No I'm not a hero, but I have served in a company full of them.”
This poem from Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae says it best...
In Poppy Fields
In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, That mark our place; and in the sky The larks, still bravely singing, fly Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields.

I ponder, I don’t go to the wall, didn’t join the VFW, don’t like crowds anymore, tear up when I see the flag flap briskly in the wind. Respect every mans service regardless of whether he or she was in combat, give to the Salvation Army, they helped when I was in the service. Just try to be a good Man.

Two in the sand box once for Iraq and again for Kuwait. Nothing good to remember so it is best left to the sands of time.

Did my time during Viet Nam, joined nothing when I returned, wanted the country to be a better place without Viet Nams, disappointed. Guys/gals who served deserve respect, people who sent them there don't. That's all I'm saying.
