Would they not just relocate the show?

Sounds like no guarantees for the pipe show.

Would they not just relocate the show? Usually, these things are booked a year out from what I understand. woodsroad said it well:

Has it always been at the Pheasant Run? Interesting to hear about the quality issues. If that's the case, the choice of this location by the Pipe Show organizers must have had a lot to do with low cost. They'll need to scramble to find an equivalent site at a low rice point. Though my guess is they were probably notified long before this story hit.

Tom Wolfe from the UPCA:
I’ve contacted the CPCC, and they just became aware of the issue. They will be contacting Pheasant Run to find out how this impacts the show.
So I guess, stay tuned.

There were existing financial concerns at the show already.
A letter was distributed at this year's show regarding a need for attendees to support the organizers by spending more money at the host hotel. Specifically, attendees were reprimanded for booking hotel's rooms and/or having meals off site.
This may just be another straw on the camel's back. Whether it's the straw that does the camel in remains to be seen.

The same was said about giving the bar business in the smoking lounge at the West Coast Pipe show....the show organizer, Steve told me.."Even though the casino is smoker friendly, every year it is a battle to get a smoking room" and they had signs out asking people to buy drinks at the bar in the smoking room...it is just too bad that for the price of four two finger drinks of scotch, you could buy a fifth of the same at a liquor store. Add to the problem, food and drinks brought into the smoking room on-site, many were told they could not bring them into the smoking room because they were not bought in the smoking room....that is BS...Steve said that he is going to get that fixed for next year.

I attended the Chicagoland Coin op show for a number of years and it was at Pheasant Run and then they moved it to Lake County Fairgrounds last year. The last couple years it was at PR I stayed off site because the hotel was really get run down and for what they were charging it wasn't worth it to me. I wasn't the only that felt that way either, you had to have a reservation at the Holiday Inn Express at least 6 months ahead because everyone was staying there.
It's a real shame the place is going downhill but I'm sure there are other places that can handle the show if it can be found soon enough if needed.

At 56 years old with many reviewers saying it is rundown maybe it is time for it to be renovated or replaced. I have never been to the show but pictures online screams 1960 to me. Worried about smokers with whole place done with asbestos and lead pipes and paint.

Interesting insights into the pipe show's economics.

They should piggy back on the Tobacco Plus Expo in Vegas, held at the convention center, so pretty high powered. Of course, have to share the floor with cigars and vapes.

They will get it together. They survived the "last minute" change to no smoking in the convention center. They'll survive the closing of the Pheasant Run.
