My credit card company sent me a text tonight. They wanted me to call them..When I called them they told me that someone tried to use my card number to shop online..They realized that it wasn't me so they blocked my account..In about a week I will get new cards with new numbers.I had to change my password to get into their web site...And some folks wonder why I have such reservations about all this high tech stuff.

I am assuming they did not give you the number to call in the text message?

The "high tech stuff" is what saves us a lot of hassle in these circumstances.
Credit Card theft has been going on for decades. It's only by using today's technology that you were prevented from having to learn about the theft AFTER charges that weren't yours showed up on your bill.
That wasn't the case a long time ago. Credit card companies had virtually no way of catching the theft on the front end. It was the customer who would catch the theft by reading their bill and noticing the unauthorized charges. Then customers had to initiate the investigation. Sometimes it took weeks to settle the matter and another week or two to get replacement cards. I experienced this mess back in the 90s.
I'll take today's high tech stuff. It's much better than the alternative.

The same has happened twice to me as well. Once with my credit card, once with my debit card. Both times it was taken care of and I had new cards in hand within 10 days.

Had it happen twice. First time with AMX, they called me at 5pm Friday (about 5 years ago)asking if I was buying 2 tickets to Alaska. I wasn't, & never had a charge questioned in 25 years, but they caught it. Unreal to me. Had a new card 10:30 the next day. Impressed
