November has been hard on me financially. Between a pipe purchase and undelivered tobacco, I am out $330.00. As a recipient of the minimum Social Security pay out, these are serious hits.
Then, out of the blue, Ron Powell sent me a superb smoking, handmade RD Brandy, with the simple comment that he thought I might like it.
I am still in awe of that gesture and my faith in human nature, restored. Thank you Ron, you could not have realized how well timed your gift was.

Now let me tell you something of this very generous soul. He reciprocated by sending me a package with not only the Ray Charles CD set in it but, two tinned Tobaccos (one of a very generous size) and a DVD. I scolded him a little telling him I did not intend anything in return when I was told of the CD set he was sending.
He has gone far beyond the call of duty, specially for someone on SS.

This is not a political thread and I do not want to see it locked by arguments on either side which was never my intent.

Anyway Ss was supposed to be a safety net to savings and pensions not a comfortable retirement income alone. Excuse me Dave, I was forced into retirement because of medical reasons and ended up spending all I had on medical bills and supporting myself till the government told me when I could have MY money back. So you see we all aren't deadbeats waiting for old age to kick in to collect what is duly do us to begin with. So you see some of us have no choice. You must be very well off to speak as you do and if not I hope what happened to me and many others doesn't happen to you, its no fun dealing with pain each and every day and still try to eke out a little to cover what SS doesn't.

I know of what you speak..having had to do the same. ...and speaking of Ron (RdPipes), and his generosity, he blessed me last Christmas with one of his gems...just because he knew I really wanted one and could not afford to spend the $$ on it. This is the beauty he gave meVVVV Ron is that kinda guy....generous to a fault and refuses to accept something back...very much like brother Scrooge.

RD THAT IS A VERY MANLY and kind thing to do. Fact, Davidlax I paid the max over 6000$ every year, with Exxon kicking in the same amount, over 12,000$ every yr for 32.5 yrs, do the math at 5% interest and you get way over a million, , and pardon the political words they say I’m getting an entitlement.

I think that was a very kind gesture and is an indication of what kind of person RD is. We should be proud to have people like that on the Patch.
