Season's Greetings fellow pipe club members!
Going into Thanksgiving and Christmas with the festivities, pipe smoking seems to be a natural fit as I contemplate the holidays when I was much younger....I hope to instill that memory on my grandchildren as I enter the season...if it is appropriate in your situation, I hope that you can do the same.
I have not heard from Sutliff Tobacco company about any samples headed our way, but I have heard that the Virtual pipe club members have received product...if I hear of anything, I will issue a shot out to you all. Paul is like any other retailer, and depends on holiday sales, if yo can afford to buy something be it for yourself or for pipe night (see below), please do so to support our great meeting place.
The Pipe club meeting will take place on Saturday, December 14th at 1 PM, if you have a Go-to pipe that you smoke at Christmas if it be a "Christmas Pipe" by a company like Peterson, or simply a pipe that trips your trigger in the holiday season...speak up at the meeting and let us know...if you have not figured it out yet we are loosely organized and just go with the flow.
The Pipe night will take place the following Wednesday on December 18th, because to schedule it like we traditionally do, it would fall on Christmas day we had to move it up a week. We will be having a White Elephant exchange...which can be somewhat misleading as a lot of White Elephant exchanges are about dumping unwanted items on others. By all means, pipe smokers can have eclectic tastes though, and might have had a falling out with Latakia blends, Virginia's, or Aro's....if it is a blend that you have fallen out of favor, it just might be in someone else's wheelhouse!
The White Elephant Game Rules
1. Bring a wrapped, anonymous gift to the shindig....Sealed tin, or maybe not even tobacco, but pipe related... or combo..a tin and pipe cleaners, lighter, etc....($20.00 limit)
2. Draw numbers to determine who gets to unwrap a present when.
3. The person who drew #1 selects a gift from the pile, opens it, and holds it up for all to see.
4. The person who drew #2 decides whether to steal that gift or unwrap a mystery present from the pile.
5. The game continues in such a fashion, with each person getting the chance to steal someone’s gift or unwrap their own surprise.
6. When there are no more unwrapped gifts, the person who drew #1 gets one last turn. If they decide not to steal a gift, keeping the one they have, the game is over. If they do steal a gift, the game continues until someone decides to keep their gift, rather than steal.
Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, and Happy new year, brothers and sisters of the briar!
