Duke is pathetic... I get home he grabs his bone, prances around and barks at me when I get home as if I am a prowler...solidifying his street cred.
When I sit down he acts like this guy.
When I head upstairs to bed even though we never allow him to sleep in our bed, he jumps on my side with legs outstretched for a goodnight hug.
For a 100 pound bulldog with a scary bark, he sure is a weenie.

Is it easy to adopt these dogs? I just cant buy a dog. too many need homes. The shelters are packed with all different kinds of pit bulls. Several times a year the adoption is free or reduced just to get rid of them. Seriously, every time they show the overcrowded shelters on TV, all you see is pit bulls and cats.

Then you have the AST, which gives all terriers a bad name. I know that the owners really believe that their dog defies the statistics.

HUH! All I get is a black screen. Ditto here. I think the IE11 browser is being slowly phased out.

When I get home (or my wife if she is out) she will stand at her gate and raise holy hell until we go into her room and give her attention. for me its just walk into the room, tell her up (on the bed), give her a hug and a belly rub. Then I can resume normal activities.

Yes, you need a dog...you want a connection to the universe...look in a dog's eyes...they are here for a reason, and if you get one from the shelter, they will be with you for life... their love is unconditional and perfect.

I agree completely.

I love bulldogs. It's always surprised me how some people freak out just at the sight of a pit bull trotting happily down the street. They're just so... smiley!
Now they're powerful animals and I wouldn't want to piss one off, but in terms of temperament, every one I've ever known has been a baby.

When they are telling you that they love you, do they slobber as much as their other Bulldog cousins ?

A banner day here! Took the dogs for their daily ramble. Today we went down to the creek where it flows thru a marshy area with brush and a few gnarled old trees. Just as we pulled up I noticed movement to the right. We had surprised a nice-sized doe in her afternoon nap. We all saw each other at about the same time, at about 25Y. She stood up, looked us over, and took off. Jack watched but Eli took off after her. I called him but he didn’t stop. Quick-like I dialed the collar controller to 5 and hit the red button. Did the trick. He yelped and came back lickedy-split. I got no joy giving him the blue-spark treatment but was happy indeed for him to have the experience, and the perfect outcome. Unless they are taught different all hunting dogs will chase deer, with truly bad outcomes for some. I’m happy that Eli had this experience so young. It just might save his life.

We just bought a bark controller collar. I doubt that it will work on the Yorkie.

I had a American Eskimo Spitz many yers ago that was a barker. We put a bark collar on her and it didn't slow her down in the least. However it did burn her neck. I took it off and got rid of it. I never put another collar like that on a dog again. Felt guilty for years.

I never put another collar like that on a dog again. Felt guilty for years. The anti-bark collars now are much more advanced, and the manufacturers go to great lengths to educate the user that you put it on the lowest settings to start, and that it is not meant to inflict pain, just an uncomfortable experience for transgressions. I have one for Duke that I rarely use, and I first tested it on my fingers... not bad. Then I held the prongs to my neck at the same setting... yowzer! So we have a low setting if he gets out of control and has saved us a few embarrassing situations. We sometimes have unexpected visitors and Duke likes to nose plow women in the crotch, one woman he went under her dress and had her on her tiptoes. When I plan ahead and have the collar, I can discreetly head him off at the pass and avoid an embarrassing situation for me and the visitor. Mine is a training collar, not an anti-bark collar.

This isn't the electric shock kind of collar. It makes a loud noise right behind her ear. I would not put a shock collar on a little dog like Lacy. Besides, I doubt that she would feel it through all that hair.

Where a dog’s life may be involved, one GOOD correction is worth a million namby-pamby “loving” corrections.
