I bet it goes for big bucks to a LOTR fan who does not smoke and ends up on shelf next to unopened action figures.

There's lots of people with more money than they know what to do with, and 20K people will die today of starvation, just like every other day.

Hard to imagine a real pipe smoker being interested in that bit of fluff, even at 1/1000 of the estimate. Good grief. Disclosure: Not a fan of LotR, if that's not obvious.

Mac, there's all the difference in the world between movies and the actual books. I can see an original manuscript going for $100K, not a movie pipe. Besides, anyone see that banana duct taped to a wall 'art' that just sold for $120K? $120,000. Just read the guy that bought it ate the banana.

If you could buy Gandalf's pipe and a guarantee you cold blow the smoke-ship, I might have to take a 2nd on the home.

A featured prop with lots of screen time in a blockbuster movie is sort of like having a dedication or strong association copy of a book. I could see this piece having a lot of upside.

As much as I enjoy LOTR and pipes, even if I had the money I could never see spending that amount of money on something like that. I would be very surprised if it actually breaks 100K like they are expecting. Low thousands maybe.

I cant see me spending more than a couple hundred on something like that, and given my current financial state even that is a far stretch. 100K? Even if I won the lottery tomorrow not a chance! (Though I have seen some really nice works from our resident carvers that I would own rather quickly!)

The witch's hat from The Wizard of Oz sold for $200,000 on two separate ocassions. Seeing this go for over $100,000 wouldn't surprise me.

I went through the checkout line today at the supermarket and the cashier asked the lady ahead of me: "Would you like to donate money to the foodbank for the holiday season?" She replied: "Yes I will donate $13.00" The cashier said "Bless your heart, that is so kind of you!" I was up next and my reply to the same question was "No thank you" "Oh" was the reply of the cashier as she looked at Ebenezer Scrooge in the flesh. What she does not know is how fully I support my cousin's Orphanage monthly for years in Uganda..I say this as to not toot my horn but things are not always as they seem.

I hear you Charlie, giving should be a private thing. I practice it in different ways, no one needs to know.

that guy with the banana should have to be forced to work at a soup kitchen daily for the next year to learn about resource management. It's very depressing to see how greedy Capitalism is.

I have a bidder registration. Current bid is at $25K. The auction house charges a 25% add on to the bid. The auction will end in seven days.
