Tax his land, Tax his bed, Tax the table, At which he's fed.
Tax his tractor, Tax his mule, Teach him taxes Are the rule.
Tax his work, Tax his pay, He works for peanuts anyway!
Tax his cow, Tax his goat, Tax his pants, Tax his coat.
Tax his ties, Tax his shirt, Tax his work, Tax his dirt.
Tax his tobacco, Tax his drink, Tax him if he Tries to think.
Tax his cigars, Tax his beers, If he cries Tax his tears.
Tax his car, Tax his gas, Find other ways To tax his arse.
Tax all he has Then let him know That you won't be done Till he has no dough.
When he screams and hollers; Then tax him some more, Tax him till He's good and sore.
Then tax his coffin, Tax his grave, Tax the sod in Which he's laid...
Put these words Upon his tomb, Taxes drove me to my doom...'
When he's gone, Do not relax, Its time to apply The inheritance tax.

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?
Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was the most prosperous in the world.
We had absolutely no national debt, had the largest middle class in the world, and Mom stayed home to raise the kids.
What in the heck happened? Can you spell 'politicians?'
GO AHEAD. . . BE AN AMERICAN!!!

Before the taxes, the government was funded by tariffs. I think China could retire our national debt.

It has been said that if people had to pay taxes separately from the initial purchase, and had to write a check to the government after being paid, a revolution would ensue.
No better time to start than now.

To be fair, if this is true, then even with the addition of all those taxes we're STILL the most prosperous nation with the largest middle class in the world, so this doesn't quite make the point you want it to.
I understand the sentiment, taxation can certainly be overdone... but it's probably not correct to pretend it's unnecessary either. As with most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle.
One question I always ask those who take the stance that taxes are evil: there is a way to live in this country without being taxed; a way to live that rugged individual American dream that's so often espoused. It involves homesteading, mostly off the grid, in a place like Alaska or backwoods Montana. Anyone can do this, tomorrow, and pay no taxes. Keep every cent you earn. So... why do you pay taxes?
The answer always boils down to the same thing: they rely on or at least enjoy many of the services taxation provides.
Trying to simplify a complex issue isn't usually helpful.

The money has to come from somewhere. I am on the board of a small HOA. We own our streets, signs, ditches, etc. We also provide the trash pickup service. The streets are falling apart, the signs have been run over and the neighborhood fences are falling down. We have 10 percent that don't pay their fees. We have filed leins but there isn't much else we can do. We have to raise the fees for the people who do pay their share. Streets, trash pickup, street signs, streetlights, etc. don't maintain themselves. Inflation affects everything. If you aren't paying your fair share, someone else has to make up the difference. If you use services, you have to pay for them. That doesn't mean that we can't grumble about how the government spends it, though.

Ok. Gonna avoid this going down any bad roads and shut it down.
This was a rant on taxes, that was not political in and of itself... but when talking taxes, political is inevitable.
