There are a few people here who have lost loved-ones over this past year, and this year will therefore be the first Christmas without them. My thoughts are with you all. I can't name everyone, but people like Ronv69 come to mind, and especially peterd-Buffalo Spirit. Thinking of you all at this time.

Nice work Paddy! Last January 28th my son and daughter in law experienced the worst thing I can imagine. We found out the day before thanksgiving 2018 that their unborn child had a heart defect and could not live without immediate open heart surgery and numerous follow up open heart surgeries through teen age years. If the newborn is big enough and strong enough, and even with multiple successful surgeries, the odds were slim for success and the statistics that follow this extremely rare situation are horrendous! Until the day my grandson was born, I never knew life could hurt so much ! He was absolutely perfect at birth but died in 3 hours because his heart was incapable of re-oxygenating his blood. Thank God we have a very strong and loving family, we all died a little bit that day. The good news is that they are pregnant again and we found out yesterday that everything looks good! I don't mind saying that the last few months knowing they were pregnant again were pretty scary despite the doctors belief that there is nothing genetic and the issue was 100% random.
this is the first time I have been able to force myself to talk about and trust me, it wasn't without a lot of tears.
Family is all we have at sad times and thanks to Paddy for bringing this family together with this thread!

Thanks for the thought! My mother passed this Sept. She was 94 and gave life a good run. My daughter and grandchildren live in Seattle so it's gonna be just me and my 15 yo kitteh! Fritmas is really for kids anyway !

Wife brought home her brother's ashes today. Pretty melancholy around the house these days. All our friends are far away or gone. Not much family left and they aren't close either. With the recent setbacks we are just existing.

I lost my Grandma and my dog of 10 years in the last two months. We can never evade death, but this year it seems like it has been particularly harsh on family and friends I know.

Sorry about your loss, Justin!
....whenever we loose one of our sweet doggies...takes months of crying to get through it all.

Lost my step father on Nov 16th. I am not sure what is worse, his passing or tending to my mother ever since. Bless all of you who are going thru this during the holidays.
