Just wondering if anyone has a goal or target or resolution that is pipe related for the New Year?
Mine is to control the PAD and TAD. And set a budget. Also not to have more than a few new to me blends open at the same time. And try to work on whether I like those first. Before opening more!
And to see if I can get at least one person interested in this hobby, in the new year.

Well, now that Im getting more comfortable in the hobby and know what I like and dont like - I want to put away some tobacco for the future. Instead of only having a million little jars and pouches - would like to put away some pounds of stuff that I like.

I can see it now...my wife hacks my account and says that "The other Charlie has control over his life, what is you problem?"

spend less time on pipe forums...lol haha. Don't be rash. I don't have one. I only buy one tin a month so that'll stay the same. I've enough pipes, so that prob won't change. Perhaps to try to take more opportunities to have a pipe.

I resolve to smoke more!
The last month or so, I have been training with a non-smoker...Next week I will be in Michigan, the Embassy suites is non smoking and it will probably be bone chilling outside....then a week in Southern California, I hop the cat I team up with there is a smoker...pretty sure all the California hotels are non smoking.

Maybe as a group, we should work on getting some of our fellow Briar brothers and sisters to come back to the Patch. Set there differences aside and enjoy the fellowship we have here.

It is a great thought and as a forum user and as a pipe club, I have done that with no measurable success. On the part of forums, I have seen people check back in after giving them a PM, and check out just as fast.... On the pipe club side, I have seen people that outwardly seemed to be the most enthusiastic to flame out and drop out...reach out in an email, and they say they will return, and do not. I had a discussion with Justin "Sparks" some time back about people leaving, and I believe we both agreed that without mind reading abilities it is pointless to figure out why people leave...and there can be a whole host of reasons...family responsibilities, bored with the hobby, other hobby's that are more enjoyable....and the people that leave because they are offended, generally seem to be the type that hold the grudge. It is still worth trying...not trying to rain on anyone, but just sharing my experiences.

I guess you could say starting my cellar in earnest. I've only one deliberately put back, and enough of my #10 Downing to add that to the cellar.

Make more pipes, make each better than the last. Buy more tobacco. Take less commissions, and make more of what my creativity guides me to make. Buy more tobacco. Make a diamond shanked bent bull dog. Learn the shape-first method. Buy more tobacco.

While I agree with Charlie's assessment, there is another reason why some people stop posting. Charlie mentioned bored of hobby, other hobbies...but I wonder are some people simply bored with forums in general, or they're just busy. When I am on top of things, it's easy to keep up with posts and threads...when I'm flat out and can't keep up, sometimes the thought of all the unread threads is exhausting and almost puts me off. Maybe that's because of my role as moderator where I have to check all threads...others can pick and choose. But still, I think that people go through phases - and sometimes people just stop posting because they stop posting, and there's no other reason.

I also would like to start cellaring some, but buying more than I smoke has evaded me thus far. FYI not sure where in SoCal you'll be, but in old town San Diego there is Racine and Laramie, its at least a public place to smoke and they have a nice pipe museum.

Smoke more, get back into woodworking more and get back on track making pipes. I have reassembled my shop after 10 years in storage and am picking up a new to me lathe tomorrow so I have to learn how to use it. I got my small blasting cabinet working and have been practicing blasts on ruined estate pipes and have it down pretty good but will wait to hear from others if it's any good. I have a lot to keep me busy this year.

To relax and enjoy the collection I already have and not be always hunting for the next new pipe. Same here, and I'll add that I plan to smoke up most of my open tobaccos and bits and pieces around here before I order more tobacco . New Years Resolutions always set the bar up high like that...that's why we break them .

My resolution is to have fewer bowls when I play golf. My habit has been to smoke pipe after pipe, and that's not been a good plan. Now I hope to have a bowl only after I do something good on the course- a great shot, a birdie, a long putt, something. Yesterday I would have "earned" no bowls at all.

Mine is to get a camper van and hit the road. Set up my pipe area in the van, and do a little travel. KOA campsites in Calif. I want to sit in front of a lake, maybe some fishing and smoke my pipes & baccy. 🧙🏼♂️

Smoke more tobacco and only buy a tin when I visit my local B&M. Sell off about a dozen pipes.
