Back from the barn, sitting in the sun, drinking coffee and having a pipe. Started a brand new filly today. She's not broke, never really been worked with much, doesnt know beans from apple butter. No bad habits. A clean slate. She's gonna be fun, I much prefer building a new house to remodelling a rotten one. For those of us who don't know jack about horses, is a filly just a female horse, or is it more specific than that?

"A filly is a female horse that is too young to be called a mare. There are two specific definitions in use: In most cases, a filly is a female horse under four years old. In some nations, such as the United Kingdom and the United States, the world of horse racing sets the cutoff age for fillies as five." en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Filly

With a quick Google, it looks like there's a place in co. Killane that does green burials. Depending on the regulations, sometimes green burial isn't much cheaper than a normal one, so you might wanna give that a look. I didn't look long enough to check their prices or anything. cheers for looking. I'm actually in the North, but I'm sure there are places up here too, not that I've heard of any. I've heard that the old IRA guys have a place that does cheap natural burials for Protestants for free.(Too soon?) 😱😜👺

But, even at two years of age, if she has a foal she's no longer referred to as a filly. She's a mare. This one is barely 2, and has never been bred. Thus, she's a filly. The other one Ive been working, the paint in the photos, is just over 4 years old, but has never been bred. So, she's still a filly. A quarter horse usually gets their final growth spurt in their 6th year, btw. Then they are fully mature.

Getting a bunch of document requests from the bank for the mortgage that don't make sense. They want to know why we spent 38 bucks on dog food! 🙄😕

In dog years, I married a filly, and it has all worked out...after dating a few weeks, I called her a "cute little heifer" ...me being from Kansas, it all worked out (for a few weeks). She is a California girl, so she thought it cute until she found out what a heifer is. Years later, a pastor that was from the same region on the discussion on women wearing makeup said "If the barn needs painting, paint the barn." Being midwestern, it rung a bell with me, and came across as sage advice. I used the same phraseology when in a cosmetic store with my "cute little heifer"...do not go there, things end up badly! Ask me how I know.

"If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle" Judges 14:18
Callin' your woman a heifer is downright Biblical 😁

For the most part, we're happy to make fun of ourselves. I think the Irish sense of humour is one of the best (but maybe I'm biased).

Heavy, gusty winds today. Not going anywhere, not doing anything. I will probably have my Sunday dinner Java Latte out in the truck later, however, out of the wind.

92 degrees at 10:40 AM, not hot by Arizona standards, but the 25% humidity makes it uncomfortable to this humid-wuss.
Smoking my pipe with the wife after my son came over and made Eggs Benedict California style (avocado), home fries on the side... doggone that was good with coffee and fresh Orange Juice!

We have a BJS in town. It's similar to Costco,or Sams Club..We know a fella who works there.I asked him if he could get me some TP It's been hard to find around here lately. As soon as the store gets some it's sold out. Some stores actually have limits an how much you can buy...He just brought us a pack of 30 mega rolls. He said he grabbed it as soon as it came off the truck..I remember the old timers telling that back during WW2 the were limits on things you could buy..I didn't think I would see it.

Whenever we moved to a military base, my dad made a beeline to meet the Supply sergeant with a gift of adult beverages. "Them guys are the ones that make things happen" was what my dad told me. I thought that it was normal for military dependents to wear combat and jungle boots as soon as their feet matured. GI issued bunk-beds, GI blankets and poncho liners. I wondered for years why other people had the milkman deliver milk when my dad simply brought home the 5 gallon dispenser bags in a milk crate that fit into the mess hall dispenser,a and on and on. I think my dad was an understudy of Phil Silvers.

It's 55° and excessive high winds again today. One thing about training young horses, high wind in NOT your friend, and all of my facilities are outdoor.
Its like putting a little kid in a room with a big screen tv, turning on cartoons and then trying to teach them math. You can try, but you're mostly just wasting your time and raising your blood pressure.
I gonna just stay home, relax and smoke. 😊

Home from an unexpected vet visit. One dog with an unknown systemic infection and a fever of 105... Two and a half hours later doggy has fluids and antibiotics onboard and is already improving. Here's hoping this addition to my ongoing vet bill is worth it (Meaning she makes it thru, she is definitely worth it I just hate to rack up a $700+ bill only to have us lose her anyhow)

That's the rough part about dogs. They become part of you, then the vets say that you can cut your heart out or starve. Edit I was on the phone today trying to get homeowners insurance and Lacy was on my lap. The woman on the phone asked me if we had a dog and if it had ever bit anyone. I joked that she nipped me when I tried to take a pork chop bone and she said they would have to charge another $500 because my dog bit someone. I said I was joking and she said that it was too late "it was on tape". About then Lacy started licking my face. I guess I will just have to pay for whatever she needs.

Ronv69 I hope I didnt come across too heartless. I always gamble that they will recover and pay the bill unless the vet tells me its time. Then we sit and bawl a lot with our pup before letting him or her go.

We need to dry out Ireland, a few Saguaro cactuses, would do you well! I grew up a good part of my life in the Midwest where humidity was common, I was acclimated to it then. I moved to the southwest and rapidly acclimated to a dry climate. Up to a hundred degrees in low humidity I am relatively comfortable. Sprinkle a dash of humidity, and I start complaining. We do have the monsoon season for a few months where the moisture from Mexico sweeps north and that is the worst time of the year for me.

I feel you.

Ronv69 Here in AZ? At least in the phoenix valley we have dry, parched, and water? whats that? I'm not sure the numbers but I believe with the exception of Monsoon season we rarely top 30%, and even then only for short periods. Im guessing summertime humidity cant be over 10% on average.

Can someone not take a joke - and even if it's on tape, the tone of the conversation would be obvious to anyone with an ounce of intelligence.
