I hope that they can last another 150 years, or even 15.

A friend of mine was visiting Boston a month or so ago and she was telling me how beautiful the downtown was. I asked her if she had seen L.J. Peretti's shop there and she said no and that she had never heard of it but she'd like to. I gave her the address. A couple of hours later she informed me that she had a wonderful visit there and she grabbed me some baccy. They gave her the last of Thanksgiving Day to bring to me. Made my day for sure. I hope to one day make my own visit. She said everyone there was so nice.

Great post Charlie.
As some here may recall, I visited them back in the summer of 2019.
I was fortunate enough to meet Stephen Willett, the current owner. He was a most gracious host and gave me a personal tour of their entire operation. Stephen and I shared a bowl in his blending/mixing room. I also got a chance to meet their pipe carvers and, besides purchasing one of their pipes from the showroom, commissioned them to finish 1920's bent bulldog.
I learned from Stephen that the previous owner, Mr. Robert Peretti had recently passed away.
Stephen shared with me that he had worked @ Peretti's back when he was in college. After retiring from the corporate world, Stephen moved back to Boston and purchased Peretti's from Robert.
Definitely one of my fondest piping memories.

The way Mass legislation is going, I fear for that beloved store.

I'm a bit north of them in NH, but my wife works in Cambridge. I keep threatening to take a day off in order to ride down with her to Boston so I can visit. They have so many blends I want to try.

I stopped in their shop once a few years ago, and they were snooty assholes. Didn't buy anything and never went back.

That bent bulldog is a beauty. Thanks Slo. I couldn't be happier with the way it turned out. When I first saw the stummel it was unfinished. The head pipe carver, Nick Johnson, asked me what style of stem I wanted. Being a fan of a tapered vs military, this is what I opted for. I think he did a great job of the finish of the pipe as well as creating a beautiful stem. I really did the fact that this came out of a lot of unfinished Stummels that were purchased by Perretti back in the 1920's.

I’m not too far from Peretti’s and have never been. Will need to stop in for their Thanksgiving Blend

Perrettis has a reputation for rudeness, but the one time I called I thought they were very nice. Of course I did share an office with a Southie for 10 years who was always busting my chops so maybe I'm not the best judge. John Brandt over at The Old Firehouse is always pleasant.

That is an awesome achievement, especially in today's (censored) world. Wishing them many, many more years to come.

Since this thread has been resurrected, I'll say that I've been in Peretti's several times and it's always been great. The same older gentleman has been there, and you could maybe call him reserved, but perfectly polite. He's had great advice on blends for me every time I've been in, and gave me a sample of D-7485 which I ended up really liking (I'm not usually a burley fan). I've heard this "reputation" that Ron refers to as well, and it seems wholly undeserved to me.
That said, I'd put up with a whole shop of the worst attitudes Boston or even New York could muster, if it meant replenishing my supplies of Cambridge Flake, Tashkent, and Royal. If you haven't tried their blends - for whatever reason - you're missing out!
