Our first meeting of the decade will be the third Wednesday, 15Jan. As usual we will be at the Pen & Pencil Club at 7:00pm, for pipes, conversations, served drinks and hot cooked to order meals. What is not usual is that our bartender and manager Dan Kenney will not be there - he passed away last month after the illness which made him miss the last several months. He will be in our memories.

Les,
I am sorry to hear about your friend, I am sure that he will be deeply missed.
How did “The Pen And Pencil Club” come by that name?

Yo tra
The Pen & Pencil is the oldest journalist club in the US, maybe in the Americas. It was founded back in the 1800s and in its heyday, Philly had several newspapers, all based downtown and within easy walking distance of the club. Remember the ad decades ago - a cartoon with the caption "Nearly everybody reads the Bulletin"? At this point, many of the folks who come to the club are from the bars and restaurants. Philly went from a city with lousy and sparse cuisine to quite the foody paradise. Loads of craft beer places and even a distillery or three. P&P is one of the very few places where you can smoke inside, and also order drinks and food too. We are truly blessed to have them host our meetings.
