I just opened and jarred a tin of Maltese Folcon, tin date was 3-11-03...also I found 1/2 tin of Two Friends English Choc. and added it a jar of the same. A bowl of the Falcon is up next!

I've got too much English open. Have to go through my cellar and find an old Virginia or two.

I've got too much English open. Have to go through my cellar and find an old Virginia or two. I have too much of everything open, but most of my little C& D type tubs have ten or more years on them ,and they're all bulging at the top and bottom. I figure sooner or later seals will burst and I'll be left with dry, tasteless dust. I'd be mighty P.O,ed. whenever I see those C & D tubs, I kick myself in the butt for not packing that space with McCelland tobaccos instead, all I have left of that is 50gm of FMOTT, and 100gm of St James Woods.

Maltese Falcon is pretty hard to come by at times and with the age on that tin it is going to sing in the right pipe. Around 05 is about as old as my stash goes being mostly 09 for GLP blends. I have had no trouble with the 8oz tins yet but will keep a watchful eye. I would mention that the older square metal tins seem to be more problematic at leaking to my dismay. I had to pitch out a tin of Rotary and that really hurt. I have had the worst luck with the Peter Heinrichs 8oz tins and gave up and moved them to jars. Looking on SP.COM I see mylar looking bags for Peter Heinrichs in the 250gram style. The problem with jars is the label glue gives out leaving you mystery blends down the road.

Thanks for the heads up... I have 4 8oz tins of PH Dark Strong flake with a couple of years on them... at what point Sean did you start getting concerned? As to the Op... it is really nice to drag an old tin out and reap the rewards... but one has to be cognizant of the fact that blends degrade after a certain point, hopefully one spreads purchases over a wider range of years than I did. First world problems.

Five years ago and I bought them when they first became available and where all the rage. So they could not have made it more than nine years before they swelled like a teenage mother.

This time of year my regular smoking jars get packed away to make room for Christmas items. All mystery jars get left out ,to be smoked up as the holidays move along...I've emptied two so far, and the Flacon filled one. In my tins, there is Mountain Camp, and Gates of Light, both rounding over nicely; I didn't check the date ,but I'll check them again soon as I packed them in with my supply of meds that I visit monthly .

The other day I found a stash of GH Rum flake which must be over 6 years old. It was a bit dry so I hydrated it. I thought as it being an aromatic and so old that it would of lost its taste but what’s surprise it was the next day when I smoked it. Flavorful, very rich and quality smoke. A great find 👍

A great find 👍 I opened my briefcase to find a broken mason jar with dried out brown bogie.... a few distilled water soaked hydration discs and the tobacco is fine, it has been my experience that rope and plug/ ( compressed blends) fare better than loose tobacco when needing to be rehydrated.
