Agree! Doesn't matter your political affiliation. Respect the office.

Hey, you get to visit the WH without standing in line! Who wouldn’t do that? Oh, yea... They deserved the honor, a great season.

I haven't followed LSU, there is a place for politics and there is a place to set it aside... I have disagreed profoundly with presidents in the past, but an invitation to the Whitehouse with any of them I would put it as a place of honor to receive the invitation...
With all our differences, we are blessed to live in such a great country.

Refusing to show respect to the president because you don't cotton to some of his ideas is a foolish new trend performed by foolish disrespectful people. These retards must not know that bills and laws must pass the senate and the congress and sometimes the supreme court. Of course they still teach respect in some places and then folks know the difference between respect and being foolish. Respect has nothing to do with like in case you need a clue. Hats off to LSU for being a class act in a world of fools.

I've been confused my whole life as to why some people feel that "the office" of the presidency should be respected, so it's nothing new for me. I mean this with absolutely no political bias at all; I've never felt that any president (or other public office holder) somehow "deserves" respect just because they hold the position.
These positions aren't awarded to the most qualified individuals, they're awarded via a popularity contest. Throughout the history of our country, we've had some very qualified and intelligent people in office, and some that are very much the opposite. Hard to see why a position like that deserves respect on its own, regardless of who occupies it.
I respect individuals, and that respect is based on whether or not they earn it - exactly the same way that I expect others to judge me. The idea of being compelled to respect a position regardless of the individual that occupies it... that's a monarchy, exactly the thing our founding fathers overthrew, right?
None of which is a commentary on LSU, who DID have a great season and DID behave in a dignified manner. Go to the white house or don't, either choice seems equally appropriate to me... but the people that find the need for histrionics as they decline the invite, I agree that those people are idiots. You can respectfully decline an invite without playing SJW.

Looks like it was a pretty class thing to do, but I'd leave politics out of it.

Try disrespecting a judge and you get a free hot and a cot until you learn your lesson about respect. Try disrespecting a commanding officer and you get a trip to Leavenworth Prison Kansas. Disrespect the president enough and you will probably meet two really nice guys in a unmarked car, see Leavenworth.. You can disrespect the flag until a veteran having a bad day decides to stomp a mudhole in you. Try telling a grizzled Harley rider wearing colors that his bike sucks, see mudhole. Now you can see clearly how these folks didn't earn your respect but deserve it. Next week we can work on valor, honor and semper fidelis.

Now you can see clearly how these folks didn't earn your respect but deserve it. Next week we can work on valor, honor and semper fidelis. Philosophical differences I guess, but I completely disagree that anyone in any of those examples deserves respect just because they may be able to force certain behaviors (law enforcement and the judiciary deserve respect for other reasons of course). Intimidation or forced obedience don't earn respect, and don't deserve it. It's been my experience that people who attempt to force respect in those ways are typically the last ones who get it. They usually just end up looking childish. The same can be said for a person who behaves disrespectfully just because they can, though. That's the other side of the coin. So I agree that the other folks who have used the opportunity to decline a WH invite to publicly posture about their politics... those people are just as childish as someone trying to garner respect through intimidation.
