N.Carolina has made it mandatory that high school students take a class in finances in order to graduate..Something that I think is long over due.

They had a class called DECA when I went to skool that taught basic life skills and communication in basic business. I commend N Carolina for teaching basic skills to graduate.

When I sat down at supper even when my kids were in elementary we discussed how much things cost, and what Daddy made, how a bank works, how to write checks. You don’t teach your kids they get 💩 information, Now my kids have decent jobs and I believe they cherish my honest attempt to give them a valuable start in life. Example when my Daughter was in the Air Force, Crew Chief on a Gun ship, she wrote her mother and said ( Mom please don’t send me designer jeans , my group I’m in can’t afford them and you need to spend your money on yourself. How many kids would say that. My wife who like I was raised in a good family but poor, she never wanted her kids to do without.

I'm all for bringing back home ec classes. Gotta know how to make bacon and eggs if you're going to make it in this world.

Schools can some times be behind times in what they teach.I graduated from a top rated school in Detroit in 1960..While in school I wanted to take Typing and Cooking..I was told that only girls could take those classes..Now almost everyone texts and goes on some form of social media, and a great many chefs are men..I never learned to type beyond hunt and peck and though I can cook a bit it's only because my wife has taught me.

I teach at a private liberal arts college in western NY and I do Finance and Real Estate. Today was the first day of Financial Planning. Juniors and Seniors in college couldn't answer simple basic financial questions about their own expectations and what it takes for them to live comfortably and eventually retire. It's a sad sad sad sad world out there.

My son is disabled and I worry about him. He hates to talk about what will happen when we are gone. He kind of understands. There is nothing wrong with his intelligence, but he has a form of Aspergers and some joint issues, as well as migraines. We don't know how much we can leave him. He doesn't drive. He won't eat eggs or any seafood. I have told him that if he doesn't start eating eggs he will be very hungry most of the time. He used to cook potato soup and a couple of other things, but he seems to have lost interest. Money is the thing I worry about the most. He needs a caretaker/wife. His "girlfriend" is 22 years older so that's not a solution.

I think at one time they taught some of this in Home Economics. A lot of girls took that class, so I considered it a definite mandatory in my curriculum.

It's a stressful thing t consider.
