My SMS Meerschaum pipe has a chip out of the stem, right where I clench it. I called SMS in Vancouver, and he said send the pipe, and they can replace the stem for about $10.00. Anyone done business with them before? Boswell charged me about $60.00 to replace a broken stem. $10.00 sounds too good to be true.

$10 is low but not unheard of if they are doing you a favor. That is what they were charging in the 80's/90's/2000's at retail. My first thought is they are doing a repair at cost for a current customer. The Boswell's charged for a handmade stem. If that is what you got then not out of line. The SMS is probably a pre-made stem where they have a lot of them made and then they fine tune it to fit a pipe. I see a lot of them listed on ebay: Meer Stem |
