The young daughter of a good friend of mine made me a tobacco pouch. She makes these leather pouches with leather drawstrings, that some folks use for board game dice or a deck of tarot cards, and which apparently sell real well at Renaissance Fairs and the different conventions she attends. A young entrepreneur! Soon she will have a website from which you can order one.
She made this one just for me, for tobacco. She even embossed the leather with TABAC on one side and my initials on the other.
The pouch is not lined so the inside is just the rough side of the leather. And the drawstrings of course do not close it tight. It is very handsome though. And made with a lot of love and attention to detail.
I don't have the heart to tell her that since there is no air/water proof lining, and the pouch cannot be shut air tight, it is not good for long term storage of tobacco. I don't have the heart to not use it, actually. I think I will use it for Carter Hall, because I tend to smoke that stuff up when I am in that mood, so it doesn't hang around long, and the tobacco doesn't lose a lot by being a little dry, and it is far from expensive or hard to get so it won't break my heart if it does dry out, or even spill out.

For a day or two use, just put your tobacco in a ziploc bag inside the pouch.

It's a lovely gift. I'm sure if you're away for a weekend or for a few days it would serve a purpose.

I know exactly how you feel sir, I tend to treasure everything my daughter has made for me in the past because they were made with love and the spirit of unselfishness. And to this day I have everything she made for me from the time she was just a little girl. Why to do they have to grow up?

Hey, keep us updated when she starts that website. I wouldn't mind having one, especially if she'll so a liner in one. I could use a couple for other things too.

I happen to have an old Martin Wess pouch that's similar, with drawstring on top (like a dice bag). It is lined, but not airtight. I use it often for day trips and it works just fine. I'm sure you'll get plenty of enjoyment out of it.

Can you use a disc in it or a small Boveda humidor packets? get a few of the tiny ones and dont worry about them drying out, the Boveda packets can be recharged by placing them in distilled water for a a couple of days and the will get all and perfect. That way you can always have a fresh one to keep in your new pouch.

For a day or two use, just put your tobacco in a ziploc bag inside the pouch. Great advice. And if you buy the ziplock snack bags they are much shallower than sandwich bags, and you can fit several blends into a single pouch without co-mingling the blends.

The pouch is pretty cool. It holds 50g without a problem. I am really pleased with it, such a simple design. Just some nice leather sown together like a pocket, and turned inside out. Some punched holes, some leather straps, a little decoration, boom done. These things are great. My 4th Generation roll up would obviously keep tobacco much better, but this thing works well for a day or two amount of smoke. Especially with zip locks baggies. Thanks all for the tip. (Though it is so cool to use without and just load from the leather.) On the one hand it would be cool to have this thing lined. (I don't know how but these craft people can do amazing things.) On the other hand, she doesn't want to expand into the pipe and tobacco business, she has all she can do supplying the the D&D and fantasy games crowd. Besides, with a lining, many pipe smokers would get one, and I kind of like being the only one that has one. As an aside, I never fully realized how many kinds of dice there are in the world. Oh my goodness. Different shapes, sizes, numbers, letters, playing card suits, arcane alien writing. Very interesting. There is a fellow that makes these lined boxes. They handsomely sit on your desk. You keep a collection of dice in the top part, and then you move a lever, and the dice roll down this jumble path to the bottom part. Turn the box upside down and the bottom part becomes the top part, ready for the lever. More fun than just throwing them. But the cool side market he has found is people who do a lot of on line stuff and want to generate random passwords! Combined number and letter dice, an you are good to go. I would never have thought of that. Smoking 80% Carter Hall + 20% CULT Abacus. From a custom leather pouch with my initials on it.
