My sister and I have going thru stuff at my mothers (she passed this past Sept. She made it till she was 95 ) . While doing this I found a box of stuff I brought back from my stay at the University of Vietnam and in it was my Randall made #3 Hunter with a 7" blade that I used at the University. It has the standard leather handle, dbl. brass hilt with a Brass end cap for the handle. It's been in the leather sheath I used for it and has a bit of rust on the blade from sitting in a leather sheat for the past 43 years. They still make this knife but get about 2 1/2 times more than i paid for mine ! How many of you guys have a Randall Made knife?

Those are very valuable pieces. And they will cut. Handle with care. Not a veteran and I can't afford one.

I had a KA-BAR, gave it to my Grandfather when I got back, he used it for hog killing. When he died I tried to find it but I believe my uncle took it, anyway I never found it. Al MAR was my favorite knife, got a folder that is worth 2 to 3 times what I paid for it. Wish I did have a Randall though, some of the finest knifes made.

I don't have a Randel but I do have a 80s fixed blade Buck 119 and yes it still shaves, hard to beat 40HC stainless steel. I also have a Case trout knife with the gut spoon. A good knife is a investment that's lasts a lifetime.

Had this sweet beauty for many years...it went to Nam and back, then with it sitting around gathering dust I gave it to a good friend on BoB by the name of Blackhorse. Having no heirs to pass it on to, I wanted it to have a good home with a collector and maker of fine cutlery so it can carry on in the next generation of collectors.

Yeah, it has a long history...glad it is with a collector who appreciates the quality that it represents...haven't kept up with the Randall family...last one I knew was Bo'...hope he is still carrying on the family tradition of fine cutlery.

I have two - a #14 Attack, a #24 Guardian, and an outstanding order for a #1 All Purpose Fighting Knife.
Can you tell I have a slight problem?
The #14 was because everyman needs a good, large knife. the #24 was to replace an AG Russle Sting that had seen better days, and the #1 is a "just because there's so much history there."
I will carry the #24 from time to time but mostly rely on a small Spyderco after all of that. LOL

It would be cool to have a Randall...what a great history. I have some decent fixed blade knives but really never carry them as they are not practical, my Gerber auto is carried everyday, and quite a workhorse that keeps a great edge.

I looked into getting one for my son a few years back, but due to the wait time then(5 years I think) I decided not to go forward. Nice knife though

Nice thread...and brings back a lot of old memories. When I was younger, I used to love browsing around all the once popular, Gun and Knife shows. Amazing.... what some guys can do with steel. Now, sadly, where I live, all these venues deemed to be too politically incorrect, too controversial for the mincing, hyper-woke, New York sissies, are gone, banned, banished.
Now, guns are molded from space age plastic, aka crap. You can't engrave, or, charcoal-blue crap. Modern stamped, stainless alloy, cookie-cutter knives, can't hold an edge. Also crap! Today, that old-school Randall/Loveless type craftmanship comes at a big price, and the guys who can still produce a high-quality product should be paid a fair price for what they make, and compensated for their efforts. But truth be told, most of what I see, I no longer want, and, I can't afford it either.
I wouldn't mind owning an old Randall.

I had a Fairbairn-Sykes Commando Dagger from the War. Sadly, it was stolen in a great burglary in 2005.
Replaced it with a KaBar Tanto Point. Good knife. I carry it on irrigation rounds in the event of Black Bears getting too aggressive which is not likely but better to be prepared.

I believe the Tanto style came about with the Cold Steel Knife Company. It is a thick piece of steel that can penetrate a car door if you have the strength to do so. I carry one in my truck in the side panel where it is available if needed. The appearance alone should detract an aggressive individual from pursuing the issue. I have always carried a flip knife, after being trained in the use of it, by a person who was a member of the "Brotherhood" from Compton, Ca. Using a knife in the event of being attacked is a tricky situation...you better know what you are doing or it may be more of a detriment than being unarmed. With the social environment that exists today, I feel it is better to be "armed" in some way than taking your chances and having luck on your side.

My dad made some knives as a hobby. They're pretty rustic compared to Randall and the like, but precious to me.

Only problems with knives is that the laws regarding what & where you can carry one is more diverse than guns. I carry one all the time & use it daily for one task or another. Those posted and described are beautiful.

I carry it on irrigation rounds in the event of Black Bears getting too aggressive which is not likely but better to be prepared. Years ago back when I was far more ambitious, and definitely more romantic....I actually was going to try fabricating a copy of Fairbairn's Smatchet. But the thoughts of grinding, or, trying to grind four equal bevels was daunting enough to snap me out of my stupor. Too much work and too many hours of fretting and sweating and all for a wall hanger. Nope. In retrospect, I should have tried. But back when I was younger, there were no computers, and I had little access to suppliers, heat-treating services, very few tools, little money, and no one to help me if I got into trouble. But....I still should have tried.

The one withthe brass bolster and cap. I got it on sale with the Kydex sheath. Clip broke off the back. I have tried to get a leather sheath for it with no luck and I now have a leather Bowie style sheath that works but it's a little loose. The knife stays in with the retention strap, but the knife is too valuable to use anyway. I have a Chinese copy of the Kabar USMC knife that I have been using for chores around the new house and I don't have any complaints. It sharpens easily and I have used the butt for a hammer with no ill effects.

These days a Spyder CO Native made in the USA Golden Colorado serrated blade cuts everything with ease and it stays sharp despite neglect and abuse. I never use a knife for a hammer that's what 10r vice grips are for.

Genuine kbar leather handle kit. See that little roll pin. That is why Vice Grip makes a better hammer.
