This past month I kept getting all of these annoying messages telling me that my windows 7 was no longer going to be supported by MS. It appeared that I either needed to buy a new laptop or spend $100+ for Windows 10. I reached out to one of my previous employees, IT Programmer, and asked him about possible solutions? Ferdie came through for me.... He pointed me towards a free Windows 10 download and suggested I update the ram in my laptop. Fast forward to now... Window's 10 installed. Additional ram added and? This old laptop is kickin A$$ !! ;-)

I was rather pissed when I took my desktop in for repair and they automatically upgraded it and told me they couldn't turn it back. I had been putting off the upgrade myself. Frankly, I hate it.

I'm still running W7 on my desktop and plan to continue doing so until it's time to build a new computer. Which won't be anytime soon.
Nothing about W7 is going to stop working, they just aren't issuing security patches anymore. That barely matters, if you're already running 3rd party security.
But there's never a bad reason to upgrade your computer!

I don't understand computers so I consider mine as disposable as a phone. It is a pain in the arse but I keep mine backed up and just move on to a new PC when things slow down. I haven't had a desktop PC in 20+ years and most of my time is spent on an iPhone and I've been thinking of moving to an Mac Book but they are so expensive. I wish I could dump the keyboard and go with a iPad.

I'm glad you're firing on all 4 cylinders now.
Since I changed to the mac I'll never look back. Hasn't slowed down since I got it years ago... And I can count on 2 hands how often I've turned it off.
I had numerous PCs for many many years before and they all had to be turned off otherwise they'd slow down, but even then, they'd still slow down over time...a much shorter length of time than the mac
I spoke to a guy who works for Microsoft on Windows, and he told me the reason is, at least in part, due to the drivers. Windows share driver files and that causes the slowdown as more programs share the same file. Apparently mac have a different driver file for each program so there's no sharing and then minimal slowdown.
At least, that's what I was told. This friend of mine actually uses a mac when he's working on Windows.
NB. I'm not a mac fan boy... I've just noticed a big difference in the speed over time compared to a pc.

I have adopted early every micronuts system since windeers 98. Windows 10 looks just like 7 but they hide all the screens you are used to. Replaced with what appears to be a phone app. But trust me they are there. Command Prompt Admin is the way to go if you still remember those commands.

I got one like this so I could see when any bugs got inside. I haven't seen one bug yet. No spiders, ants, anything.

Legend Lover makes a good point about drivers. I guess what I meant was, my current system / hardware won't stop working on W7. But as new hardware is released, it won't have drivers for W7 anymore... so yeah, if you buy a new printer or something, it won't work right. That's probably what will eventually drive me to a new build.

I would still be running XP if I could comfortably add printers and such when they fall by the wayside. I'm ok with Windows 10, I just use the old familiar interface and only resort to the "app" look when I have to. What does amaze me is how much memory it takes to run these new machines and OS's. Long gone are the days when code was written elegantly and efficiently. Of course, long gone are the days when it took hours to add a printer or other device. If my windows machine slows down too much, I've always reformatted the HD and started over; works wonders.

I'm a MacHead from way back. I drank the koolaid in 1987, and love my iPhone, use my iPad, and my now 7 year old MacBook Pro. I also watch tons of sports on TV, so I guess I don't fit in, at least in a few recent threads.

I gave Apple a shot with the Macintosh II and have never found a reason to give them another chance.

My employer recently supplied me with an HP Elite Laptop that has Windows 10 Enterprise that is a really nice unit for what it does.
My old Toshiba Satellite at home still rocks, I did have a buddy install a solid state HD in it, and it was like getting a new computer...it has Windows 10 in t, and has given me no problems.

I am a Mac and PC user and build my own desktop computers. I can say, without a doubt, and even factoring in the annoying issues that may come with it, Windows 10 is FAR AND AWAY a superior operating system to Windows 7. I built this computer in 2015ish, and it is still running on the original installation of Windows 10. That would be utterly unthinkable on previous MS operating systems.
I also love Mac OS (though I still refer to it as OSX...). I have been using Macs since they went to x86 processors in 2006-2007. My daily laptop to this day is a 2011 Macbook Pro 13", which finally after 7 years is on its last legs. It has gone through a few hard drives, several cooling fans, hard drive cables, and 3-4 batteries. The speakers are going out on it now, and the processor is starting to show its age so I have given up on keeping this thing running. Next time a major problem occurs will be time to buy a new laptop. Or, more likely, finally make the switch to a tablet.

I have a desktop somewhere in the attic. Have been a laptop guy for 6 or 7 years now. My daughter has an Airbook and swears by it. I Just can't bring myself to spend the $$ for one Even with the mentioned repairs, my Macbook has had the lowest yearly cost of ownership than any other computer I've had. I don't need a laptop any more for school, and I have a dedicated business laptop at work, so I can't justify spending the money on a new Macbook for watching Youtube videos in bed (what I use my Macbook for now 80% of the time).

Windows works perfectly as long as it's running on top of VMware.

My new Windows 10 has become a problem. Unable to access my email on Yahoo with Microsoft Edge nor Google Chrome. The Windows 10 Mail app does not work with Yahoo, either. Very frustrating. Talked with Dell's Software Support and they could not figure out the problem.
