Some how some one some one hacked my wife's credit card and was trying to use it to shop online..What they were trying to buy .was out of the ordinary. The credit card company blocked it.They text my wife she told them it wasn't her trying to use it..I just got off the phone a while ago. They're sending her a card with a different number..But I think I might be engaged to a computer.

Lucky they caught it that way. I've been hit twice in the last 18 months or so, they caught it the second time around, but the first time, those bastards drained my bank account.

Happened to me a couple of weeks before Christmas. Someone bought $400 worth of white carnations on my card. The CC company refunded my money and issued a new card. No doubt a pain, but thankfully the card company’s algorithms shut the card down very quickly, before more damage was done; at least three charges were declined. Strange world we live in.

Had my checking account wiped out several years ago. A few months ago, I had some bogus purchases and two airline tickets to Alaska on my debit card. In both cases my account was credited almost immediately. The only way to make it harder to fleece you is to not have a credit card, and deactivate your debit card. Or, use something like a PayPal or prepaid card. That would make life nearly impossible for most people, or extremely frustrating at least. It's just a part of life nowadays. It's good that they catch it in most instances, or at least issue a prompt credit the times they don't catch it.

I have two credit cards with low limits that I use for online stuff. I don't even bother with a card attached to my bank account and the daily limit is set very low for that as well. Never use your PIN always use your card as a charge so you have better coverage in case something happens.

Similar to above. One true credit card (WallyWorld). Other is ATM card inside bank. Do use the PIN for that. That also can be used for online (always as credit). On daily basis, cash still king IMO

Those criminals have no souls. The week after my wife passed away 7 credit cards were opened in her name. It took me a month to sort it all out.

Been through all those woes including the draining of two accounts. It took many weeks to get my money back. That was very hard.
As for credit cards, years ago a friend of mine named his dog as a Director on his company's Board. Soon, the credit cards started rolling in. Not just offers, the actuals cards.

I've been lucky, the only time my card has been flagged by the bank it really was me using it, just on an EXTREMELY rare out of town run. Called them and got it sorted so I could get gas and get home.
But then, I never have much money in my account as it all goes back out to bills faster than I can make it...

Happened to me once too. Someone was trying to buy things in London on my card. The bank caught it and blocked the card, which I only found out when I went in the Quickie Mart to pay for the gas I'd just put in my car. I was stuck in the store with a tank full of gas and no way to pay for it.

Had enough airline miles to buy plane tickets to Hawaii for my daughter and granddaughter.

Hope I never have to fly again, no children to visit, wife & I like driving distance distance (600 miles) from family, so we don't have to do birthday parties or such every month.

Paypal solves what ails you. PayPal has been hacked several times over the past few years. I have a prepaid debit card that I load with cash whenever I make online purchases. No online vendors have any of my primary account numbers and I've never found need to own a credit card.

Flew to Vegas to a convention and purchased something in the mall there when I arrived. Had a phone call from my bank less than 10 minutes to verify it was me.
