The last Thursday in Jan. I made my bi-yearly trip to my Doctor, a fasting trip ,with bloodwork...next morning I got a call to be in his office " this afternoon"...call backs are never good! Now, I retired back in June, and became much less active, walking mostly from the TV, to the computer, to the icebox, or the stove...belts are tight, pants are tight, heck, the only things that fit right are shoes and ties.... Doc is a really cool ,old-time Doctor , said " Look herb, you're up to almost 350, 20 lbs more than the heart attack date back in11 ...A1C IS UP FROM 7.4 TO OVER 10!!" Long story short, he put me on insulin...I've been controlled by pills for years ,but it takes more now...from that day I've cut out all cookies, chips ,crackers, ice cream and bumped my veggie intake, cut out sodas, and beefed up the water intake...joined Anytime Fittness, witch in right at my backdoor. Last week I was in the gym three times ,but this week I've been there for over an hour every day...stepped on the scales in the gym today ,and I'm down to 328. thing is, I spend my morning pipe time checking blood sugar ,and shooting insulin, then planning and prepping lower fat and carb meals...mid-day i'm in the gym' evening I cook for the gals and me ,as I cut the size of my meal and still fix a good meal. I know you gotta do what you gotta do , but it cuts into the patch/smoke time...it will be nice to see my feet again tho

It’s a marathon, not a sprint. For many of us, carbs are poison. Good luck.

At 42 I was nearly 300lbs (5’9’’) and ‘pre-diabetic’. I adopted a low fat, low sodium, low sugar vegan whole food diet and simple home economist lifestyle and lost 100lbs in one calendar year and nearly 50lbs over the next calendar year. Now at 51 I am 160lbs and have reversed my metabolic disease process. It can be done. And if one makes a full and true conversion it will be done.

www.amazon.ca/Neal-Barnards-Program-Reversing-Diabetes/dp/1594868107“Until Dr. Barnard’s scientific breakthrough, most health professionals believed that once you developed diabetes, you were stuck with it—and could anticipate one complication after another, from worsening eyesight and nerve symptoms to heart and kidney problems. But as this groundbreaking work reveals, this simply is not true. In a series of studies—the most recent funded by the National Institutes of Health—Dr. Barnard has shown that it is possible to repair insulin function and reverse type 2 diabetes. By following his scientifically proven, life-changing program, diabetics can control blood sugar three times more effectively than with the standard diet; and cut back on and in some cases eliminate medications while reducing the risk of diabetes complications.”
