I was in the Bahamas a little bit ago. For work. After work i was sitting in an outdoor bar comfortably sipping a Bahama Mamma (why not) and I pulled out one of the handful of Cuban cigars I had purchased earlier.
Just as the cigar became visible, an assistant bartender came running over, with a glass or crystal pineapple lighter, flicked it, and held out the flame for me.
Wow wow wow. What a great experience.
Something really hard to find.
There is a bricks and mortar tobacco shop I have frequented. It has a huge walk in humidor, which attracts a lot of college students and hipsters, and a lot of tobacco in jars for the roll your own cigarettes crowd, but the pipe tobaccos offerings are dismal. More variety in the OTC brands than in anything in a tin.
OK. They know their audience I guess. But I can't help thinking that if they put in a lounge, with comfy chairs and etc., they would get more business. So, being a nosy nabob, I asked the guy behind the counter about it. He explained that such a thing would only attract smokers, who would stink up the place.
I don't of course hope bad things on them, but it seems to me they do not have much of a future. The counter man must not be an owner, but the bad judgement to hire such a goof shows a short sighted view of the business.
If they had even a rudimentary lounge, I would pay full retail for their tobaccos. And if they had a decent lounge, even if it required a subscription or yearly membership, or endowing a chair, I would be all in.

He explained that such a thing would only attract smokers, who would stink up the place.... ~Snip I would probably have blurted out without thinking "Uh, you sell tobacco products. Who exactly did you think you were going to attract?!?" Or maybe more to the point. "Because non smokers buy tobacco products right?"

I think the counter man had the model of selling cigarettes in mind. Where a person purchases the product and then goes away and smokes it elsewhere. I guess it could be consistent to say, "I'll sell you cigarettes, but I don't want you smoking them around me." But I bet the cigar folks would love a place to lounge about smoking their stogies. Pipe smokers would certainly participate, and buy stuff. And in general, cigarette smokers are not as enthusiastic about lounges, so there would be a few probably no more than a few. But also, they sell a lot of lottery tickets there, so maybe the whole things is a lost cause. The Bahamas are not that far away.

We're have two cigar lounges near my house, and neither of them attract cigarette smokers. Just pipes and cigars burning all day long.

I heard there's a cigar shop opened in Belfast that has a smoking lounge. They don't do pipe tobacco though.
Still, I never thought I'd see that happen. Sad that this place in the Bahamas didn't have the bigger picture in mind.

Sorry, I completely misread... And should have realised because the part about the Bahamas was positive.

Maybe because too many buy their tobacco products on line and don't support their B&M? B&B Tobacconists in Asheville have a bunch of regulars that sit in comfy chairs & puff & BS and have a great old time.

My B&M has a pretty big lounge. It's like one big happy family. Few folks have been run off for not buying cigars there and bringing their own but so far a very small segment. Now honestly I don't know if having a lounge makes a shop more profitable. You could easily use that space to sell bottled wine or specialty beers and probably double the sales of the shop but it is nice when a lounge is present.
Another shop just a bit further in the opposite direction has a huge lounge and has a bar. That dude just prints money.

I found a nice lounge/shop in Tulsa last week also, I think it depends on the political climate in your state really

Both the b & ms I've been too here in bentonville have a large humidor and a place to smoke and drink and place chess or watch the game or what have ya and one of them seems like it does really well. Limited pipe tobacco options but some - and pipes. Mostly cigars and local beer. The other is a Cigar District? I believe that's a chain have you guys seen these around? It costs per year to hang out in the lounge and they provide lockers for you to keep your own stuff there.

There was an unoccupied business near my parent's house and the new owner was planning on putting in a smoking lounge, with pipes and cigars for sale. He was going to sell beer, and twice a week have chicks in bikinis serve you. I can't see how that would have failed, but it became a crappy used car lot

He tried a cigar store for a few weeks - no smoking lounge or bikinis and only a few $50 12oz cans of Capt. Black, but it quickly failed and now he sells $4,000 Ford Tauruses and Chevy S-10s.
