Good Evening fellow Patchers...Welp, I’m back home in Tallahassee after spending 2 very long months in Miami trying to help my brother who has diabetes and has dialysis 3 times a week for failing kidneys.
I offered to help him out by donating one of my kidneys to help him gain a few more years of life. He is 81 and I am 76...neither of us are spring chickens.
I visited him in the hospital every day, bringing the things he requested...computer, phone charger, electric razor...the list went on and on.
Finally was able to get him to his home...a condo right on Biscayne Bay with a great view...spent nights trying to help him to the bathroom, him groaning in pain from infected kidney stones to add to his misery. Finally got 1 stone removed and the other stone “sleaved” to prevent infection from spreading.
Him being incontinent, I had to wipe him after he did his business. Not a pleasant chore.
To make a long miserable story a little shorter, I’ll just say that moving my wife and small doggie to Miami (a place I fled from in the 1990’s) was no small chore. Wife hated everything about Miami (traffic is just insane) but the one saving grace is the food in Miami is fantastic!
Brother refuses to pay attention to his diet, take his meds and live in accordance to Dr’s orders...I was looking at being hospitalized for 2-3 months recovery in order to be an organ donor...wife was not happy about this, but after all, this is my brother...but to suffer and change my entire life when this man refuses to do his part to keep his life in proper order and at least help in the process by eating the right foods and take his meds on time....No...he just wouldn’t do it!
We contacted a nursing agency and got him a Reg. nurse who would do private duty and who is presently with him. Wife and I and small doggie packed our meager possessions and left town as soon as the nurse (who will be with him 24/7) got in the room.
I tried...I really did, but to risk my health and put my wife and doggie through this, when he doesn’t want to change his life style....just too much to ask....we booked and just got back home to peace and happiness.
So...fellow patchers, I am back and firing up a favorite pipe of mine made by Ron of RdPipes...sitting on my porch and finally enjoying my life as it should be.
