I am guessing that the excise tax is from your state.

I found this. Ohio isn't on the list.
Four states (Alabama, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Texas) American Samoa, Guam and Palau tax pipe tobacco on a per ounce basis ranging from $0.0356 to $8.3380. I would ask them about it.

Yep, come to Arkansas, they will tax the hell out of your personal property, but tobacco is still ok.

Although Texas has an excise tax, it isn't listed on the receipt of the test order I just put in. We shall see.

I entered the exact same items, into my cart, from another on line provider and there was no tax or excise tax, and shipping was $5.99.
$16.87 less for the exact same items. If this holds true, I will not be buying from SP any more.

The state tax was 7.84 total, which is our sales tax. Shipping was normal.

We might be able to find a way around the taxes for a while, but eventually we will just have to decide what it's worth to us to smoke our pipes. It's obvious that the government is against us m

I probably have enough to last but not necessarily the things I like as I am still finding that out.
Maybe someone could facilitate a "trading" web site where you can trade anything for anything? Even those green prices of paper with numbers on them

I am way past a lifetime supply. I am not even close to the end of my McClelland. Everything I buy from now on is out of curiosity.

The owner at the B&M pipe shop I visited this week said no online tobacco shop can ship to me here in Washington, and its a $10,000.00 fine if caught. Also, he has to charge over 90% in tobacco tax if I buy from him. His Lane BCA was over $6.00 an ounce. So he concentrates more on quality pipes etc. and great service, because the state is killing his tobacco trade...on purpose.
Fortunately, I have a son across the border in Idaho who also smokes a pipe, I dont need to give WA any more tax money.

However, I had found one place that shipped anyway... pm coming your way...

I might have paid it when I was working, but if I could afford it on SS, it would be one of yours. Don't go getting your feelings hurt that I knew other pipemakers before I met you, (and had money) It was $65. Wat'cha got for that? 😜 Know where I can get an Rd Pipes estate?

State laws don't apply to out of state businesses .

Online businesses will now charge state taxes... because of federal law, not state laws. A relatively new federal ruling says that states can enforce tax collection on online orders, so most online shopping portals now collect the tax during your order (for the ones that don't, you're still required to pay it yourself). I was referencing the WA state law saying mail order tobacco is not allowed. That's purely a state law, nothing in federal code (which governs the mail) backs it up. Obviously, Laudisi has a competent corporate law division, and they have no problem sending tobacco to WA. Couldn't tell you how many shipments I got before I even found out this law exists lol.

I seriously doubt you will ever find an estate RdPipe...they are cherished items that, if anything, will be part of an inheritance to some lucky family member. I've designated Josh to be the inheritor of my pipes and cellar and he already has one of Ron's pipes so he knows the quality and perfection of what he has and what I have as well. JMHO

I'd still take that morta off his hands if it was going as a second at a price I could afford.

Ron is really picky and his work reflects that...he won't let anything out of his shop that isn't 100% the way he wants it...so you can forget that morta!

If you buy 90 dollars of product from Smokingpipes, shipping is free. Looks like you were just short of that. And yes, Washington state is pretty tough, but not insurmountable. I believe 4Noggins ships there. Or find a friend in a neighboring state. There are ways around.

Every single online seller will have to deal with charging the correct State (and in most cases County as well) sales tax this year (and it's a HUGE pain in the butt).

Every single online seller will have to deal with charging the correct State (and in most cases County as well) sales tax this year (and it's a HUGE pain in the butt). See my explanation above; I wasn't saying they don't have to charge state tax, as that is a federal ruling. I was saying they don't have to comply with the state law saying not to ship tobacco to WA. All of us who live here know pretty well for certain that they don't comply with that one .
