As some of you here may know, I blew my left knee out (ACL torn in two) back in the beginning of December, while skiing with the family.
Needles to say, it's been a long painful road to recovery.
Although not 100%, the knee is doing much better and I've been itchin to get back out on the golf course.
Yesterday was a beautiful 57 degree sunny day here. I got a call from a buddy of mine that's been recovering from surgery on one of his legs. He too has been outta commission for a couple of months. We decided to take it slow, only playing 9 holes, but smoking several cigars and enjoying plenty of Scotch!
Despite the fact that we both needed a Mulligan on our first whole tee shot, we each played pretty well. I actually had a birdie and three pars. (don't ask me about the double bogies). Needless to say I was pleasantly surprised.
So, today being 66 degrees and dry, I had to get out again. So, this afternoon, after getting some work done, I went down to the club and tee'd em up. No birdies today, but only a couple of double bogies and plenty of pars. Ended up shooting an 82.
Obviously there were plenty of cigars and a wee dram or three of Scotch! ;-)
Also met a couple of great blokes down from NYC, that were attending a golf school and decided to get a round in after class.
All in all a great couple of days.
Cheers

Ha, The funny thing (Hubris on my part) is that I'm the only one of my family that actually is (was) a skier. After making sure they all took lessons and spending a couple of hours on the bunny slopes, we finally went on our first run. Having helped Blondie get up from one of several spills, I finally headed down the slope. While trying to avoid a runaway snowboarder I caught a tip and spun my left foot around 90 degrees clockwise and dislocated my knee. (Man it sucks gettin old). All's well that end's well though. I'm back pretty much mobile, just have to be mindful of the bum knee now. :-(

I tore my left MCL playing paintball, and know what it takes to get back. Nice you're playing the golf again, and it sounds like pretty well! At least I can tell when its going to rain now...

Is golf a tax write off if it is used for medical rehabilitation purposes, if not it should be.

Glad to hear your up and on the course again Dino. I used to play on and off when I was younger. I recently decided I have time and $ to start again. Question to you golfers here. Does anyone smoke a pipe while playing? I have seen cigars and cigarettes, but don’t recall ever seeing a pipe. I know it will all depend on local law and club rules. But a cob on the course sounds great to me!

Hit balls Sunday with my daughter and son. Lovely afternoon.
Got fit for new irons last year and it was a game changer. Went with the Ping i200 and got most of my length back from when I was younger. At 60 I can now can crank my 7 165-170 when I need to and can actually hit a 3 iron again with the new sticks.
Going to get fit for Driver and 3 wood this season. Thinking about joining a league and playing more. I do enjoy the game.

In 1992 I spent a week extreme skiing at Whistler/Blackcomb in British Columbia. When I got home I took my kids to Holiday Valley in NY, I despised skiing in the east but the kids wanted to go so off we went. I was so bored I was doing 360's as I skied with the kids on an intermediate run and I caught an edge and broke my leg, the infamous "boot fracture" ......and had to be taken down by snowmobile

You can smoke a pipe while golfing, but a cigar is a much better fit for me... much more user friendly.
Leave the fancy tamper at home, tees are a dual purpose tool.

Are you having to wear a brace on your knee Dino? I ask because our daughter blew her knee out, torn ACL, playing basketball her junior year in HS and the next fall, playing golf on the HS team, had to wear a brace. She is right handed and the left knee was injured. It inhibited her swing, but she managed to play a pretty decent season. That was over 20 years ago and I would imagine there has been progress in the surgical techniques.
I hope your recovery goes well.

Kelley, The Ortho Doc suggested I wear my brace at first, especially until everything is healed up (had extensive bone bruising). Definitely playing differently right now though. Not near as much lower body twisting.

But a cob on the course sounds great to me! I don't smoke cobs, but in my golf bag at any time are 6-12 pipes, many of which get smoked per 18 holes. Smoke chipping and putting, but not full swings, as I am afraid I'll bite through the stem.

Here's that guy on the green. But, OH! No pipe, what a slacker. (In the thumbnail pic it seemed he might have been clenching.)

I am trying to adjust to my first real left knee problem, which got torqued in an odd accident involving a golf cart a leash, and my fine labrador. Doc thinks it's just a sprain, and I can walk all right, but if I turn it just slightly the wrong way, it stings. It doesn't affect my driving distance, but the mental activity it chews up takes a toll.

Just walked 9 hitting about 2-3 balls in under an hour and a half. Playing again tomorrow. The course was empty.
