Im running really low on my Old Dad blend, and so its about time order in the 4 seperate tobaccos that I use, and go to work. I sat down and did some math, and I will have 45oz of the final blend, and it will cost me about 120.00, including shipping. Ill have to ship it to my son in Idaho, and pick it up when I visit the grandbabies, cant ship it to WA.
That puts me at roughly $2.70 per ounce for a custom blend that I really, really enjoy. Now, that seems to me to be pretty reasonable, but math isnt my stong suite. Does that sound reasonable to you guys?

Long as you like it and can afford it...that is all that matters...you enjoying your favorite blend is critical to having a good smoke....at least for me it is.

That's reasonable in my books. As a point of comparison, my cellar currently has a little over 73 pounds of various blends and the average cost is $3.06/oz. I would say you are doing quite well.
Are you willing to share the recipe?

You guys are gonna laugh me right off the forum. 4oz SWR Regular - burley tobaccos 4oz Carter Hall - burley with some virginia with a light topping 4oz Lane BCA - black cavendish 1oz Blending ODF Kentucky Burley I buy the 14oz tubs and mix like that, its more economical. To you more sophisticated smokers, I know how it must sound. But have you ever found something with a value greater than the sum of its parts? This was a happy accident I found on a whim and a lark. And its easy and affordable. And I like it.

It also looks like it's out of production. Mars Cigar has some at the best price.

You can work magic with S.W.R. and Carter Hall; I've done it a few times...making you own personal favorite is priceless ,when you look at what a McClelland tin can fetch these days.
Well Done B.W.!!!

I did some rough math an my Red Queen V blend I do costs about $2.33/oz or $8.21 per 100g. May be a tad higher when you factor in shipping costs on the components but I can 4 of the 5 from the same source which is mostly Sutliff. I say rough because eventually I need to buy perique and I'm currently using an old batch (5+ years old) that was given to me and no clue on the source I'm going to hit up Mark Ryan to see if he determine sourcing for me.

When you compare it to UK prices, it's extremely reasonable.

More than that and we had to hire a scribe to carve it in stone.

Yesterday I mixed up a test run of "Old Dad". I used some very old Edgeworth instead of S.W.R., but I rubbed the tobaccos until they were very well mixed. In the afternoon I took over the wife's overstuffed armchair and had a very fine smoke in a large, no name billiard. I followed with another bowl ,in the same pipe ,in the evening ,and I'm having some in my C.L.P. pot right now. I really like this blend, and I know this CH pouch I made up wont last long; there's a big jar of this in my near future. Thanks, Bigwoolie, I'm calling mine "Big Daddy's blend"

When I used to rabbit hunt we would always keep track of how many rabbits we got up and how many we killed. As the dogs got better and better, we had to create a tally stick to keep track
