I noticed this evening that Father The Flame was available on Amazon Prime to rent for $3.99
Just finished it.
I know there's been quite a bit of controversy surrounding this film, but I gotta tell ya... I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The production quality was fantastic.
If you haven't done so already, I would encourage anyone here to watch it. You will be better for it. I know I am.

I don't know about or missed all the controversy. I can imagine, I suppose, that those who are against smoking pipes would be against this movie.
I watched this last night while cleaning my pipes. I cleaned some 30 pipes watching this movie. It is really great.
While we all smoke for our own reasons, it is good to be aware that by smoking a pipe we are participating in a very old and venerable tradition. Even when smoking alone, we are smoking with countless thousand elders, long passed on, going back many crazy many years. We are also sharing with each other, in the present, fellow pipe smokers around the world, with whom our experience is shared, as is our reasons for smoking, our satisfaction, and our devotion to the paraphernalia of it all.
Some call this a hobby. I sometimes feel that kind of trivializes what we are part of, what we are continuing, what traditions will not be abandoned on our watch.
Collecting PEZ candy containers - that's a hobby.
Nick Lyons said that there are two kinds of fishing books - instructional and devotional. This movie is devotional.
I apologize to those of you that collect PEZ candy containers. I meant no disrespect.

Yo jeff - good one, re devotional. This is indeed a wonderful movie - very high production values. It has fascinating story lines, about real people with tons of humanity. A lot of history too. This movie is really about living, and life.

Poured money into the project for several years in donations and licensed products, each year with the promise that it would come out the next year. After eight years of waiting, it is released and "The Room" is no longer the worst movie I've ever seen.

Wife and I liked it. She said "why don't you have one of his pipes"! 😳 Sounds like an opportunity! Nope. We just spent a quarter of the price of one of his pipes on furniture and had to charge it. When I was still working they were half as much and still too much.

Took a long time, but I received the Father the Flame DVD as a gift and finally watched it as well. I thought it was very well done. Would love to see a sequel with even more pipe makers, brand inclusion (I know that's no so easy) and process.

And, it's hard to sit on a pipe; painful at least. I'm also guessing they don't smoke appreciably better than any other quality artisan pipe. But like you, I will continue to guess, as I won't be buying.

This is the first I've heard of it. Two surprises: first, that this gentleman is in Michigan, so not so very far away relatively speaking (I learned to appreciate Michigan when one of my daughters went to college there); second, that it's available through the library consortium where I work. So I might try to get hold of it and watch it after the holidays.
