Today, after a deep bout of introspection, I arrived at this epiphany: I like beer. That is all. Welcome to the Patch from Humble Texas! 🤠🐴

Without a doubt.
It would be interesting to see that place within six months. Fungal in the jungle.

I got malaria while spending 2 years in the highland jungles of Papua New Guinea many years ago. I've had it twice, in fact. I reckon if I get it again, it'll kill me.
Fun fact...the last time I got malaria, I was simultaneously hit with kidney stones.
Me and mosquitoes, we no longer gee haw.

I just read that Gretna, Louisiana is the safest place in the United States crime-wise. I wonder if people don't commit crimes there, or if those who do end up as alligator bait?

This thread, for some reason, reminds me of Jack Handy.

I love these videos. The only problem I have is that within a couple weeks they'd become a fortress of malaria, with all the skeeters breeding in that thing. There's no aeration or replenishment of water. Some of these guys are able to pipe water in and out making them a more viable novelty. I wonder what they do with them when they're done? I was thinking the same thing myself. I also wonder if they got the heavy machinery in between the filming. That guy doesn't seem the build to be doing all that, but I'm probably wrong. I was also thinking is the grass not going to die very quickly? Surely a tiny layer of sod won't be enough to keep the grass surviving will it? That's just brilliant!

Gretna is basically a low rent suburb of New Orleans. The people in Gretna who commit crime just drives a mile or two and commit the crimes in New Orleans where there is more money. (Gretna is considered to be part of the West Bank area of New Orleans - Algiers, Gretna, Harvey & Marrero - which are small towns located on the west bank of the Mississippi River.)

In towns close to an interstate such as the one I live in..It's common for someone to jump off the interstate and rob something. Then jump back on the interstate and be gone.

We are moving to a house right on Interstate 69 in NE Texas, but it's a rural area and the house can't be seen from the highway and we will have a fence with an electric gate and motion detectors. By the time he gets to the house we will be waiting for him. 😉🤠

If McDonald's sold hot dogs, could you keep a straight face while you ordered a McWeiner and asked them to supersize it?

We used to go to DQ and order GutBusters all the time. There was a hamburger stand that had good burgers and they sold a 1 Gallon Coke! In Houston in July there was no competition. Anyway, we went to school with the girls who worked there and we ordered some really nasty stuff.

While I have had stranded motorists come to my door and front gate, no bandits. I do not even keep a firearm handy any longer. I stopped greeting people while armed long ago. I just do not want to live that way. Not moralizing, just making a life choice. On my old gun rack rests a saber made in Toledo Spain in 1940. I suppose that could do some damage during a home invasion. I Fenced both Saber and Foil many years ago.

But it's a completely different situation. We're on the US 69 corridor that runs from Mexico to the central US, and it's going to get busier. Still less crime than Houston or Humble, but some risk.

We live 3 miles from the big Houston Airport, and we heard a roar tonight and wondered if it was thunder, before we realized that it was the first plane we had heard in a month. Usually there are several planes in the sky. On Friday nights I can usually count at least a dozen by the lights and once I counted 17. It's just crazy! Anyone planning on flying in the next month or so?

I am not planning on it, but my wife's sister is lowly dying in San Jose, and I think a flight is imminent. The wife thinks we should drive, we will fly if that happens.

With airline tickets down to less than $70 roundtrip, it would be actually cheaper to fly. Let the pilot drive.

Just for the hell of it, and because I'm bored, I looked up roundtrip tickets from Dallas (DFW) to Los Angeles (LAX), and they start at $53. That includes a laptop bag, not a full-size carry on, but ain't no way an Airbus A320 burns less than $53 bucks worth of jet fuel on a 1,215 mile flight, each way. Hell, you could go to LA for dinner, if the restaurants were open.
Bring a regular size carry on and they get you though - $35-$150, and guess which end yours falls on.
