I see that Bill Withers has passed away at age 81. "There ain't no sunshine when you're gone...."

He was a giant in my life. I really loved the guy and will dearly miss him. His music was inspirational.

A great song that brightens any day.
I think Pharell Williams captured the same essence in his song.
Although it was a tough way that African Americans came to our shores, we are a richer culture for their presence...and that isn't even scratching the surface.

Another great one gone and this song is fairly apropos these days: this is the first I've seen of his passing...such a big loss; his songs touched so many, myself included.

I liked the story he tells about his salad days and the public. He went out to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles on a Sunday following church. That is a superior Soul Food restaurant in West Los Angeles. He overheard a couple of older Church ladies talking about how great "Bill Wither's" songs were. So, he turned to them and said, "I am Bill Withers". The ladies responded, "you ain't no Bill Withers. You ain't Black enough".
His heart was so good and in the right place.
