Just wanted to brag about how spoiled I am becoming. My better half is out getting essentials and generally being out more than she probably should, but she does it so I don't have to.
Background: We discussed what I need next for my newfound hobby, pipe making. I told he really aside from supplies the only want / need was the chuck jaws VF has, but they are pretty spendy so I can wait and make do.
So as I said, she's out this morning getting things done while I work from home. She calls me and asks how much those things are, I tell her. She thinks a minute and says, I can order them on the 15th and she will fit it in the budget!!
I love my wife!!

Glad this worked out.

So the real question is do I wait for the jaws, or begin my first lathe carved pipe without em? I want to get going, the PITH deadline is still a bit off, but its coming up fast. Besides that, I just wanna play with my lathe LOL.
I can make myself busy playing with scrap blanks and making little trinkets while I wait I suppose...
We'll see what I decide

I don’t know what you have, but a lathe is dangerous if you don’t have the right tools or training,, if you need the right equipment, wait for it. Just my opinion, saw a man get whacked by a chuck and almost lost an eye,

Just my opinion, saw a man get whacked by a chuck and almost lost an eye, Ive worked with Lathes before, I wont pretend I'm not a novice but I have some experience. My understanding is this chuck CAN be used as is, but you are correct, the proper jaws for what I am doing are much safer. I'll use this chuck and jaw set as it was designed and wait for the new jaws for pipe work. it will give me time to practice some more on basic cuts anyhow. It's been over three decades since I last had one to use regularly, so I need the practice anyhow. Thanks to you both for helping me decide to NOT be so impatient. Besides, my work will be that much better if I wait and do it right the first time!

A thought just occurred to me.. This is the first time in my life I haven't had to make do and make my own, danger be damned. Even my model airplane (Radio Control) days were using airframes made from election signs instead of the big fancy Balsa planes... I think I can wait, and NOT make due for a change

Yeah, you lose perspective and depth with one eye.

Mine has bought all but two pipes and all my tobacco for the past two years. She also has pipes and a cellar of her own.
