Yesterday I took the wife to the store where she buys her smokes..She looked at me and said.. Stay in the car old man...Today we went to the grocery store..Again she looked at me and said ..Stay in the car old man..I don't need you getting sick...I know I'm an old man,but do folks have to treat me like one?

Im only 53, but my 18yo son is already starting to treat me like that. Not out of disrespect, but out of concern that some of my injuries over the last couple of years have left me a little bit fragile in places. He wont call me "old man" cuz he knows, injuries or not, I can still whip his azz. But he hovers like an old hen when Im mounting a fresh, new horse for the first time. "You sure you dont want me to top her out first, just in case?" I usually just go ahead and let him do it anymore. Makes him feel good, and I love that he cares. And I got nothin' left to prove. , I take it as a compliment, a badge of honor. We've made it further in life than a lot of folks have, especially, in some cases, in some rather dangerous professions. And we have family that care enough about us to want us around for awhile. Many folks dont have that either. Let 'em recognize it, I say.

Hey, I'm 44 and my wife won't let me do the errands, because of type 2 and asthma. Don't feel so bad!

I will take my kids to the doctor. And the nurse will ask if they are my grandkids. π

We've made it further in life than a lot of folks have, especially, in some cases I'm a little older than Dewayne, and while I haven't led the life he has, I look around at what is left of my friends, most of whom are no longer living, and I am grateful to be here....so when someone says.."Hey, old man" I smile and say to myself, yeah, and I'm still alive and still here!

Yea Larry noticed it a little, our society does not honor Old People as the Asians do. I just look at em and ignore them.

(big 'ol sigh while writing). Fine with me if'n you fine folks use the work "old" & "Ed" in the same sentence. Still waiting on a newbie to sign in that can beat 12/29/40 & take my "seniority" away!
cheers to all

when the wife call me "old man", I simply wait a short while and use the term "old gal" or "old lady", and when she gives me the evil eye ,I remind her that we're traveling down the same road...I'm only three years ahead.

My wife is 7 years older than I, so she rarely ever refers to me as old even though I do myself. (For the record though I FEEL old most days, I don't think 51 is old)

Getting older is good, to me. Yesterday wife & I had to go to Walmart for necessities, TP & food, no TP in the grocery stores around us. Putting the bags in the back of the car, lady in a car driving by shouts out the window, "F&%$#^ Old people should stay home!" That made me feel old and pissed. A first for me. (Being told to stay home cause I am old) Still ticked.

He says a lot of those people can make upwards of $200/day panhandling. I mean, that's $50K+ a year, tax free.

I suppose it depends on what way an old man should be treated. If it's with respect and courtesy, then I think it would be honourable to be treated as an old man.

II'm 67 and some days I feel like i'm 70, some I feel like I'm 57. It just depends on what's going on.
These days, I do like being 67 because there are a couple of grocery stores near me that have set-up one a "Senior Citizens Shopping Only" hour once a week. And it is the morning after they receive their scheduled delivery. The store owner is old also and he readily admits that he holds back demand items like toilet paper for the Senior Citizens Shopping hour.

I'm 70 and my wide's 65. She wants me to avoid heavy lifting as I have some back and hip issues. Of course she does too so I do it anyway. There have been a couple movies made about how old people are simply invisible members of society. Kind of a sad thought. Never experienced that myself. Maybe there's just a lot of old people where I live. We see each other well enough.

Old Man story, after Hurricane Irene wife and I were living in a Condo on Vermilion Bay, power out, many portable generators were going. Dr 2 Condos Down had a big portable generator delivered. His young crew were pulling their hair out as it would not start , run for a few minutes and kick off . I walked over and scoped the many experts sweating , running around, accomplishing nothing. Dr was beside himself, I asked Doc can I look it over, sure he said, I said get your crew away, cap a beer and leave me be. They went on the wharf snickering about the Old Man. I first checked the oil level and sure enough it was low. Most quality generators have a low level trip, it was 2 quarts low. After finding some oil and starting it off it stayed on, his crew came running off the wharf and Doc asked, what did you do. I told him Doc sometimes wisdom comes with old age, muscles ainβt everything. I left and never told him what I found as he was a prick, but in times like a Hurricanes you help.

I'm 69. That was my goal. I have no idea what happens next. Its good to have a goal, and then reach it. ππ I dont think anybody in my family and friends that really know me expect me to make 70. Im not sure, but I suspect there's even a betting pool going on behind my back as to whither 60 is even gonna happen. π³ But Ive lived about 3 lives over the last 50 years, so every day is just more gravy on the biscuit.
