Tonight I was sitting in my chair smoking my pipe. I was watching a baseball game from last year..It was being played in Arizona..All of a sudden my thoughts took a road trip..In my mind I was driving down a lonely desert highway at night with nothing but my head lights and the moon to guide my way. With Willie Nelson on the radio That's something I've always thought I wanted to do..I love pipe smoking. Some times it takes me places I've never been..I've been at it well over half my life..If I could go back and start over I would.

We just got home from an 800 mile road trip through some really beautiful country, and to tell the truth, it's very tiring.

I just remember that it was bumpy and loud. The cab of my Ram 1500 quad cab is smooth and quiet and I have my wife and audio books. And it's much better without the normal traffic. Still, it's way more driving than I usually do.

Trust me, it is better in your truck or bike.
The big trucks are far better than they were years ago though.

we've had plenty road trips in the past. Trips to step-family in NC, one 30-day to Seattle to see blood family, many stops to see the attractions like Yosemitie (old faithful looked like shell of former self post St.Helens blowup), Badlands etc. total 30days. Took some secondary roads, lots of hills & twisties (At least have manual tranny to soften loads on brakes). Fun, she got some good pics with a "real" camera.
Nowadays...longest trip to chauffer wifie to in-county medical places, no more coaching h.s. track meets 50miles into Monroe County. Longest for me...15mins to Rez stores to gas up & maybe some sundries. At least we did have some enjoyable trips when younger. Can deal with it now

Trust me, it is better in your truck or bike. The big trucks are far better than they were years ago though. My late 1940s Autocar single axle day cab tractor was a real hoot. 100 miles on logging roads and two lane highways, I did not know where my butt ended and the seat began. Stuffed with horsehair I think and about one inch thick. No heater, of course. Fortunately, northern California was not too cold. I knew a guy who hauled logs in Montana and Idaho when it was -30 (F). He said he had to be pried from the cab. Even in the early 1970s, my friend' Cab OVer White Freightliner was pretty spartan. Of course, HE had only one stick to shift- "Road Ranger"!!!

The first Hotshot trip in my UD was to Galveston, lights were dismal and every bump shuddered thru my whole body, Got back home and hunched over wife says what’s wrong, I say I feel like I’ve been in the worst boxing match ever . Had the springs rearched, new shocks, light bar under front bumper and Man O Man it was like driving a Cadillac. Weeeeeeeeeelll almost!!

I wish I had taken some pictures when we were in NE Texas. Some of it looked like Tennessee horse country, or the Irish National Horse farm.

Something like this, sleeper in the back, tough little Goat, had to truck a big load of blasting caps, special procedures, wife wanted to come with me, made some bullshit excuse, didn’t want to blow her up. Was a hell of a trip.
