Well, dang near Idaho... it's about a mile thataway. Stepping into my third year as a pipe smoker with the majority of that being a weekend indulgence. As I make progress on my basement hideaway, however, I have all intentions of making sure there is a properly comfortable chair to while away the evenings with a bowl, scowling at a crossword puzzle. I have progressed from cigarettes (going on 8 years), through vaping (it DID work to help me quit), to actually enjoying my tobacco. Oddly enough my cigar preference is for dark, full-bodied, chunky monsters like Diesel but for pipe smoking I enjoy aromatics. I have the obligatory cobs and a Dr. Grabow, a Longchamp and a Big Ben. At the urging of an acquaintance I have a pear wood Mr. Brog on it's way. On the fence about purchasing a Petersen. Most of the time, I use a cob. I think that's enough. See you forum-side! Jon

Welcome, nothing wrong with the pipes you stated, you’ve got a good start, I would wait on the Peterson’s, they’ve got a lot of Models, look em all over. The Cob is a working mans pipe, they smoke teriffic for not much bucks. You got a good start.

I've cycled through a couple estate pipes trying different brands and styles, but yes, keep ending up with a cob in my hand. Eventually I will find that one...

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I have quite a bit of reading to do, from the looks of it. Good thing it's a nice Friday evening with no where to go in the morning.

adding my welcome/greets from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Good advice from those above, it's a fun process learning, un-learning at times but eventually you'll figger it all out what's best for ya.
BTW, if you can beat 12/29/40, yer welcome to my "seniority"! (near 30yrs on the railroad back when....seniority was everything).
cheers, Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY pipe/cigar since '62

I commend your service though, railroading is my my blood. I was taught from a young age to stand and salute any Soo Line stock I saw and grew up playing underneath model layouts. I went nearly the complete opposite direction and ended up in aviation, though. Such a disappointment Thank you for the warm welcome.

Welcome! You mentioned fence sitting on a Peterson. Can’t go wrong with their pipes, in my humble opinion.
