 This Coulee should be dry, found out we have a beaver dam downstream, USDA has a man who hunts and traps wild animals, saw him on property. Drainage board knows about the Dam, and they will let him try and trap the beavers, but if flooding is eminent they will break the dam. My next door neighbors are on a slab and flooded last year, they were worried, I informed them what the Drainage Board told me.

I'm glad, but kinda disappointed, this thread isn't about what I thought it was going to be about.

I kind of deal sad for them as animals, pretty cool looking and hard working, but if you are negatively affected by them they are just a destructive amphibious rat.

Back in 2013, we were living on a remote property in Alaska, and we developed the same beaver problem. I learned 3 things. 1. If you just tear apart the lodge, it'll be rebuilt by tomorrow morning. 2. Those things are way bigger than they appear on television. He hung off both sides of the rack on the back of my 4-wheeler 3. Put in a dutchoven like a pot roast and cooked real slow on a wood stove, its the tenderest, sweetest meat I reckon Ive ever eat in my life.  |

Beavers can be a major problem here in our creek causing flooding nad in our irrigation canals causing illegal diversion of waters. As a lawfully elected New Mexico "Mayordomo" and "Ditch Rider", it is my duty to arrest these perps whenever they get out their ponds. Since they are elusive, I mostly just break open their dams.

Today, I was enjoying a bowl of tobacco in my garage. When I looked up, I saw the new neighborhood raccoon was checking out my garage. Eventually, I said, "You probably don't want to come in here." Apparently he agreed with me and wandered off.
